Ekblad is finally healthy and Florida is playing great hockey. I cannot see a deal working here.

      why hasn't Parayko been good?

Also think this is an even trade if it were to for whatever reason happen idk if anyone would have to add. It would kind of even make sense for the Blues assuming Petro is resigned and having Faulk.

I'm curious to know why you don't think Parayko has been good this season? Point totals pretty much in line with career norms, corsi is off, but should be explained by the fact that he's also started 56% in his own zone (career high was 52%). Blocks and hits are both in line with career averages as well.

From what I've read he hasn't been as good of a play driver this season. Is zone entry and zone exit numbers have been down compared to previous years and he doesn't have great expected goals this season either. Hes slightly above average defensively but pretty brutal offensively based off of his isolated impact. Some of it might have to do with playing on his off side for a bit but from what I've watched and read so far hes been on the RS for most of the time. I dont think hes bad by any means but hes struggling this year.

Reilly >>> Parayko. Wouldn't trade down that much just for a RHD on a worse contract.

Also that Dermott contract is an overpay for that term.

If this season has been a struggle for Parayko, then I would never, ever consider trading him. His offense is not what is being asked of him.

It's probably the biggest bargain contract for a RHD, but sure.

Purely circumstantial has been in line with most of his career numbers, but also has been way more defensive than he has in the past being has started in his own zone for most of the season. But he has played solid this entire time, so that is purely circumstantial to what Toronto thinks a good defenseman is, and also opinion.

Parayko is still one of the best defensive guys without being Offensively sound. Still either way I would keep Parayko rather than get Rielly just because Parayko is so much more dynamic when it comes to the Blues style of play, and he fits Berube better than Rielly ever would.

Yeah... he isn't supposed to be a scoring defenseman, he is a shutdown defenseman with an offensive capability

Definitely I wouldn't be worried about his offense but I think the beat way for STL to upgrade their RS so they dont have one of Pietro, parayko or Faulk playing on the 3rd pair (assuming they resign Pietro which I think they will)

I would agree that we need to balance our sides eventually, Faulk has been playing the left when everyone is healthy and I think that's been fine, but Dunn needs more playing time and we've got two pretty good LHD prospects coming up in Mikkola and Perunovich (assuming he signs), so we'll have to move someone eventually. Too much to pay Faulk 6.5mil to play on the third pairing. Hopefully the expansion draft works it out for us by taking Faulk.

Parayko is very good defensively and is almost always paired against opposing teams top lines. He is not offensive, he has a heavy shot and can skate really well. On a high flying Leafs team as the #1RHD his assist numbers would probably jump a decent amount.

Reilly is much better offensively and Parayko is much better defensively just depends what your team wants/needs.
Problem is neither team would want to give up either player so the swap is pretty unlikely.

you do know Parayko has a 5.5M contract right? Also Parayko isn't a liability in either zone. Rielly big liability defensively. Parayko elite defensively, and subpar on offense.
