Leafs have no motivation to trade Kapanen for a pick this season. Now during the summer if they want cap space to acquire a Dman, yep it's a possibility.

Why a late 1st? So you can hope the player you draft becomes a Kapanen level player, but maybe end up with a bust who isn't as good?

Two second-round picks or a late first. Don’t see why the leafs would do that now when they are in the playoff race. Maybe they do that at the draft if they think they need to move cap

The reason I asked this question was because I’ve seen a lot of Leafs fans saying he’s worth a 1st and a good prospect, slavin and a 3rd, pretty much overvaluing him.

Dont throw stones here ( glass house reference ) and lick Shanahans hand for clearing the scouts department, 20 years of debacles doesnt allow us to gloat much yet on last few good ones.......

I can't immediately think of anyone I'd call a bust. Some might say Gauthier, but he's at least an NHLer. There's always the chance, so my point was simply why pointlessly roll the dice? Kapanen is good and under team control for awhile.
