Well... Its not as bad as the Abdelkader contract I guess? $10 bucks it has a far too generous NTC attached.

He is effective playing with McDavid, but once the Oilers start to fill their forward positions with more talent, I doubt Kassian still plays on the top line. So this is a good contract if he keeps playing with McDavid, but too much money and term for an enforcer (which is what he is if he isn't playing with McDavid)

Kassian isn't the guy who will win you the cup playing with McDavid.

At least it doesn't have a NTC. This deal is a lot the Connelly contract as it's a 4 year high price contract for a bottom sixer.

Alex Chiasson was the first experiment of this. He got a fair contract given his performance, despite that performance being drastically enhanced by playing with two of the league's best.

It makes sense that Kassian would be paid more than Chiasson - he brings grit and is actually an overall better player. 3.2M is fine... but this is not the type of player you give a 4Y contract to. The term should have been 2 years as it was with Chiasson.

This will look bad when someone else gets the top line (and powerplay) minutes and Kassian is grounded on the fourth line

NTC's are usually announced later, I'd bet it has at least a 10-team NTC on the contract.

Except Connolly isn't a bottom sixer. He was that for a few years until he found his game in the Cup year. Ever since, he has been a very reliable 2nd line guy. I don't see the same in Kassian. This is his peak, not a break out.

Considering this is Ken Holland then it's likely yes but...

To be fair, Justin was on the first line with Fransen and Zetterberg. Not quite McDavid level but certainly had an impact on his stats being enhanced.

We are talking about the same GM who gave both contracts here...

The thing with both this contracts at the time of signing is both players had a career high and were unknown for the next season.

The other played with Datsuyk and Zetterberg lol.

Don't see this being a good deal for the Oilers.

Oof.

Hes's a 29-year-old career fourth liner that never topped 30 points. This is quite bad.

Wow, No NTC. Honestly shocked. For Holland this isn't too bad... Still a bad contract but still.

It doesn't need a NTC. The NTC is implied.

Who would want that contract?

It is scary that I consider this to be a 'win' for Holland. I was honestly expecting 5@4 or 7@4.25.
As I said, Terrible contract, should have been making 2ish at the absolute most (and I am being generous).
