Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2020
Published: Jan. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CAR and PiT trades are done at 2019-2020 TDL

PIT trade:
They get a very very reliable 3C/4C that has excellent chemistry with tanev. They also get out from one of the G contracts, which allows them to have youth playing in the AHL. I’m not sure on Miletic but he could be a good add for the Jets and he hasn’t played at all this year for the injury prone pens so he’s probably not ready for full time action yet.The retention allows for the pens to resign their RFA’s with ease.

CAR Trade:
Pretty much explained everything in trade description. Canes get their Hamilton replacement for the year as well as roslovic is team controlled. Canes lose TVR and Eddy over the summer. Jets also give up a solid young F with top 6 potential in roslovic. The jets top 6 is set right now so moving roslovic for a guy who will be a top 6 F in 2-3 years it’s worth it.

All the 1 year 875k contracts are ones that will get signed, just not sure for how much.

All the ELC’s aren’t 100% either. Blasidell probably stays in the NCAA.

Constructive criticism is appreciated. Thank you!!!!

Carolina gets their Dougie replacement as well as a team controlled dman with good upside.

Jets take back McGinn as cap dump/roster space for roslovic.
CAR
  1. Pionk, Neal
  2. Roslovic, Jack
Additional Details:
Jets capitalize on Pionks sky high value right now (2019-20 TDL)

At the 2019-20 TDL Chevy knows a retool is needed and decides to stock the cupboards. Jets will have excess dman next year. I know they could just not trade Pionk and have a stacked blueline but if they want their team to contend for years to come, they should give the young guys some playing time while gaining a few prospects and picks.

I'd do the ANA trade, not the CAR trade (everything points to him falling back to earth, I would suggest Pionk for Strome, but uhhhhh....) And not the PIT deal, Tanev already has great chemistry with Blueger and ZAR, and I love Militec

I figured it was a good offer, Jets give up a real solid top 4 RHD and a top 6 F. These are two guys that will be expendable for WPG.

I know that fans won’t want to give up Suzuki and a 1st. But CAR is in win now mode, so getting a top 4 RHD and a top 6 F. That would be huuuuge. Plus the TOR 1st is going to be 20-31 OA so that’s no biggy. They also get out from McGinns contract.

Crazy to trade Pionk, he's so very good and Hamonic will be 30 when he signs that contract, no thanks to either the trade or signing.

No need to retain on Lowry, send him somewhere for a 3rd and good enough.

Roslovic is definitely not a top6 player tho, is a middle six winger with potential

Still not worth it, the league is getting younger and faster by the day.

Fair enough, PIT can take out Miletic and change the 2nd to a 3rd If they’d be interested in that. I just like DeSmith as a backup option. What would jets have to give for just him?

If PIT has no interest in Lowry we can just move him somewhere else.

I honestly don’t see Pionk falling back to earth. He’s been really solid on an awful WPG team. Adding him to a stacked team like CAR where he can excel in the O zone, he’ll likely put up 40 pts a year.

Give him 1 more year of experience and he could be a top 6 winger.

The most I'd expect for DeSmith alone is like a 4th lol, if we had cap I'd love Perrault, but uh we don't have cap

Pionk should pretty much be untouchable for Chevy. In the org, we have Gawanke and Kovacevic as the only two RHD prospects that have any shot at making the team. They’re likely #4 d-men at the very best, but not a true top-4 guy like Pionk who looks capable as a #2 with Jomo. Suzuki and the 1st is nice, but definitely not worth giving up our only top-4 RHD. Niku could be good, but he’s not ready for top-4 minutes with a rookie as his partner.

I agree on both these points.

I just think that Hamonic at 4 x 4.5m isn't that bad. He's a solid option for us now and Chevy is smart, just structure the deal so he's a cheap buyout later.

I disagree that Pionk should be untouchable, the Jets should capitalize on his sky high value. Would it make more sense to maybe not sign hamonic. Play Poolman as 1RD, Niku as 2RD with Edmunson (sign him at 3x3.25m) and then Samberg plays on third pairing with a depth guy we sign for like 1m-2m.

I just think that the jets need to retool, restock the cupboards and aim to contend in 2 years.

Poolman really shouldn't be on the top pairing, if he's on the top pair next season all I can say is yikes!

If he's ready to come back on Friday I'd like to see him on the 2nd pair with Sbisa and Morrissey-Pionk as the 1st with Kulikov and Niku as the 3rd.

Agreed on lowry, I was more-so just trying to make the trade work with PIT, but I'm not against moving him for a 3rd with no retention.

I agree that Pionk is an absolute stud, and he's not going to fall back to earth. But I do think the Jets should take advantage of his sky high value right now and see whats out there for him. This is all just fantasy anyways so it's fun to play around with these situations. I like the idea of injecting youth into the F group. For Hamonic, maybe we don't sign him. Let Niku play with JoMo, sign Edmunson cheap for 3 years to play with Poolman on 2nd pairing. Maybe see if Samberg would move to the right side to play with Heinola, or just sign a depth RHD to play with Samberg/Heinola (whoever makes the team).

Idk man if Pionk wants to sign with the Jets longer term they should lock him up and not think twice about it.

I'm about 99% certain that Heinola is a top 4 dman next season, as for Samberg and Niku I really don't know wtf is gonna happen with them.

The Jets should absolutely not be looking to sign Neal Pionk long term. Because inflated PP point totals, he’s going To fetch $5M on a long term deal and is no where near worth that. The deadline is the absolute perfect time to flip him for assets as his value will never be higher than it is right now.

If Trouba is worth $8M and Lindell almost $6M then yeah Pionk is worth $5M, not sure how much Jets games you've watched this season but Pionk has been excellent, better then Morrissey even.

I don't remember saying either guy was worth those contracts. Just because other teams have made mistakes, doesn't mean you should follow suit.

A PP-Dependent Dman thats borderline a top 4 at even strength? Meh, Not what he's going to get. 23 of his 32 points are on the PP, he's really bad in his own end, He's not a guy to commit big money on to build a d core

Him having 23 out of his 32 pts on the pp is a little concerning but it’s better than him having 10 pts all season lol. We need a pp specialist since buff isn’t playing. I think exploring a Pionk trade isn’t a bad idea, but if he’s willing to take an extension now for 5x4.75m or even 5x5 I’d do it. Especially since he sways Samberg to signing with the team instead of playing his 4th college year and becoming a FA. There’s other variables in extending Pionk than just his on ice performance. Plus we desperately need a PP specialist now that Niku looks like an average #4 guy.

Its 18 points on the PP not 23.

Really bad in his own end?? Are we watching the same player?? Cause he's really good in the defensive zone.

Really over rating Samberg, he's really nothing special.
