Description
Curious to see any thoughts on this trade. Backes is obviously from Minnesota so he would likely be happy to be here even if he isn’t playing every night. There is only one more season of his contract, and let’s be honest the Wild won’t be competing for a Cup in the next 2 years, so it won’t hurt to eat the contact in return for some legit prospects. Boston clearly wants to dump Backes, so Minnesota gets some good futures and a guy like Studnicka who can jump into Minnesota’s lineup immediately. From what I’ve read on the Athletic, Studnicka and Beecher are Boston’s top 2 prospects but they are in win now mode with an already weak prospect pool. They get a 30 goal scorer to add to an already stacked top 9 which arguably makes them the cup favorites.

This also allows Kaprizov to slide right into Zucker’s spot next fall.

Boston isn't trading their top 2 center prospects to dump a year of Backes (Even with Zucker coming back). They can buy him out in the off-season.

The 2nd basically is for taking on Backes contract, so that leaves Studnicka + Beecher for Zucker. No thanks

i have, their first line is stacked, other than that calling the rest of the top 9 stacked is pretty crazy

The bruins would love zucker. Problem is, there’s no one on your roster that the bruins would give up studnicka for. That may be over zealous on the bruins part, but it is their line of thought regarding that prospect.

Just spit balling but what if they took out stud and threw in let’s say Vaak and minny adds brodin? Zucker and brodin for backes, Beecher, Vaak and a 2nd. Or is that way off in terms of BOS return?

I think that would still be tough. Boston lacks young center depth in their prospect pool. Their top 4 are probably Studnicka, Beecher, Frederic and JFK. Of course Beecher is still 1-2 years away, Frederic could slide over to LW and JFK isn't expected back for another season.

I respect that you’re giving up a lot of value on the minnesota side, but judging from everything coming out of the boston organization, Studnicka and Vaakainanen are the two untouchables in the organization.

Now, I don’t think they are actually untouchable, but what I think it means is that they value those two prospects more than most organizations do.

Assuming Bergeron still has 2-4 real good years left. You don’t think they can get away with stud/coyle/jfk/Frederic/kuraly as their future pieces down the middle?

Bos shouldn't trade Stud, he's the type of prospect you hold on to for until (at least) the TDL next year. See if he makes a jump, plateaus, or falls off in his 2nd AHL year.

There is a lot of development with some of these guys still to come before we have any idea what they are going to be. If everyone hit their potential, sure, but what are the odds on that?
