Description
Oookay so this is going to be one of my many attempts to play around with some ideas. I am still on the #TradeForZucker train but if he ends up costing more than we would like, these are some rental options.

TRADE #1
Granlund has been a fun player to watch for years now. He isn't having a great year and has 18pts through 43 games playing with some good centers, which is a situation we know pretty well. Galchenyuk has 16pts in 40 games and has been given opportunity to show his worth, but just isn't panning out. It certainly isn't for the lack of trying, but it is just not working. Both players are up for contracts this summer and could both benefit from a change. Maybe they both play better and get more $$$ in the summer. I think Granlund is the better player over the past 5 years included so they have to give up something more than just a player-for-player trade. Nashville sheds a little less than a million in case they want to make another trade and moves up 60 (approx) spots in this years draft.

TRADE #2
This is one I haven't given much thought until this morning (Thanks Eklund) but Vatanen can play in a Penguins foward-centric system and would push JJ out of the lineup. JJ probably can't be traded so having him as a depth D in case of injuries is best case scenario.

Let me know what you guys think

The penguins don't want Vatanen. Sure as hell wouldn't want that price either.

If we were gonna trade for granlund we should have done it before. Nash is still in a hunt for a WC spot and granlund may be turning it around under Hynes.

Maybe, hope they both can turn it around. Just dependent on if Nashville is open to a change-of-scenery trade and willing to move up in the draft as a partial motivator. I think it would be smart to hold him and hope he turns into their own rental, but sometimes these GMs are antsy.

What don't you like about him? I always liked him in Anaheim. I don't really see the Penguins making a trade for a defenseman, but I would prefer to have more depth than Rikola & Ruhwedel in case of injury

no team is giving up a 1st for depth pieces.
They have already put 11 million into LD. They paid out MP 4 million this season to be the 2LD behind Dumo. Why would they go out and pay a 1st for a guy who has no place there or be a 3LD when they need to find a top 6 RW.
They aren't wasting their time with this. And sure as hell not at that cost.

those are good points and is likely the correct way of going about TDL. I would personally like a depth D in case we lose two down the stretch so we don't have to rely on a JJ-Ruhwedel pairing but spending a 1st for a 3LD is something to avoid so I agree with you. You good to roll with our D for the rest of the season? They have proved they can hold it down just think this year is a good chance for them and want to make sure we have bandaids in case the inevitable injury(s) happens

you can't do anything about injuries. Every team has them. You have to play through them. Every team has the same issues. I think they are lucky in they have a guy or two who is ok in WBS.
