Do they need to get rid of Backes to sign everyone

Created by: Silkysmooth42
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2020
Published: Jan. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
DESCRIPTION:
@Gofnut99 , this is in responce to your comment saying that they dont need to trade Backes to sign everyone.
I went pretty conservative with the deals (Kuhlman, Z, Bjork)
And I went conservative with the RFA deals for Debrusk and Griz (in terms of money and being cheap cheap bridge deals).
And they are over the Cap.

SOLUTIONS:
Solution 1:
Obviously not signing Nordstrom frees up some space, but again this becomes a leafs situation where they can only call up players when guys get hurt because of how tight the cap is.
A good Gm and good team hits the cap with a 21 man roster, not an 18 man roster.
Solution 2:
Trade Backes, sure this will cost about a 1st rounder (maybe a 2nd and a crappy prospect or a 3rd and a pretty good prospect), but it will allow them to comfortably sign everyone and have roster maneuverability. As well as, and this is important: SPACE FOR MORE PEOPLE! Toronto can not comfortably make any trades at this deadline because their space is so messy. Its no impossible, but it probably wont improve them all that much.
Solution 3:
Buy out Backes, this brings his hit to 4 million this coming year and 1 million the year after.
This puts them below the cap, but thats only if everyone takes the cheap deals I had. It also again leaves them very restricted with 200k to work with

Other Info (before you yell at me lol)
Par will be able to slot in when needed.
D: Chara, Griz, Clifton, and Urho will probably all come in and out (Griz will mostly stay in, so more just a cycle of that bottom line)
RW: Kuhlman will also slot in at RW Bjork will move around, Coyle will move around (and to center, etc)...

Best estimate is that the cap rises to $83.5 million next year.

Plus buying out Backes reduces his cap hit the first year from $6 million to $4 million.

You can override the cap hit default.

re the buyout: I wrote too soon because I didn't read through your Team Explanation. I apologize. If a fellow writer spends the time, so should I.

Cap goes to 83 next year. You are set. Nordy won’t likely be back. Chara might not be. Can do cheaper in net.

Gonna be tight. Can be done tho.

You can't have it both ways. You sign UFAs from other teams and expect to sign your own UFAs. In a cap league that is difficult to do, despite the Bruins being maybe the best cap managers in the league. IMO Backes is stays a Bruins. Even burying him saves little. Sure you save about 1m cap saving then you replace him with 800,000. So the saving is no more than 300,000

Think Chara gets closer to 1mill rather than 2, especially because he knows the Bs are in a crunch. I think Nordstrom is gone but other than that pretty decent job.

Actually, I was just reading today that because Backes isn't reporting to Providence that none of his salary is buried. They're still charged the full cap hit so the only way to get rid of it is to trade it at this point.

If 83 absolutely... Also yeah i dont care much for nordy, but others may.
Chara will be back through. They wont let him walk and he wont retire

They win this year....he’s gone. Go out on top.

Blidh takes Nordy’s role next year.

No, if Backes were assigned to Providence than it would be buried. However, the Bruins haven't assigned him thus no buried cap. It's not like the Bruins assigned him and he refused to play. He's in a purgatory stage right.

No they have assigned him. If he is declining to show up, thats a different issue, but they have already assigned him there

if he doesnt report to the team than his cap isnt buried. BOS just sent him down to open up a roster spot for blidh. They don’t actually want him playing for PRO for whatever reason. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
