Description
OK so lots of Muzzin v. Rielly talk today. I know I started a bunch of it. I'm going to put a big swing of a roster together here. This would follow the Pens/Blackhawks mold of spending big on the star players and finding the cheap secondary pieces. As always this is not me saying I know best or this is the only solution just an option out there.

This is the solutions-by-UFA approach.
Pietrangelo is a big fish and this would be a massive swing to land him but would give the Leafs the stability of a TRUE top pairing for the first time in years. Bilyalov is the UFA solution to the goaltending problem - you could go the Stalock route too. Engelland is insurance in-case of injury or if Liljegren is not ready.

Let me know your thoughts. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to this move but it will keep the Leafs very tight to the cap for years to come. There is a fair bit of organizational depth waiting in the wings that I feel like the 4th and 3rd line and 5/6d will be fine playing on ELCs and low-dollar deals for a while to come though.

I'm def working from a bit of a hometown sweetheart perspective here (for Petro and me LOL) but you may have a point. Leafs couldn't do it at 9+ though

If only getting a 3rd for those two you are better to keep them

1. You're right their value could probably get you a bit more.

2. In keeping them what're we going to do with them? Bracco plays in the AHL for another 4 years and never cracks the Leafs roster because he's a top-6 skill-style playmaking forward and the leafs have way more people ahead of him on the depth chart. Timashov bounces between the NHL and AHL and eventually gets picked up on waivers like Shore was.

The return may not be a lot but it's better to trade Bracco now when it is clear that he won't be making the Leafs and he still has some value. And on Timashov he wants out and to go and play somewhere where he can have a shot at 3rd line minutes or where he doesn't get bumped out of the lineup when its healthy.

You can't tell me honestly that you'd play Bracco or Timashov over anyone on the depth chart here. So why not get something in return for them.
