Is Samberg really a top prospect? Not asking sarcastically I genuinely don’t know. I only quickly looked up WPG prospects and it seemed like he’s fallen off a bit since being drafted. But you probably know better than me and I could be completely wrong.

In terms of PK I don’t see why Jets wouldn’t want him as a player. Even with him struggling this year hes still a top 4 who has the potential to be a Norris type of guy. Not saying he’ll reach that level again but even at his worst hes a much needed upgrade on D for Winnipeg. Concerns about his contract are fair. Can’t see NJD retaining much more than 30% at 3M and if Winnipeg doesn’t want that I believe another team in the league will.

Samberg has been getting better every year he's played in college. He's a fantastic shutdown defender, he has the skating plus the size 6'4" 215lbs. I'd say a good comparable would be a left-handed version of Pesce. This year his offense is getting better as well, on pace for around 30 in 40 games after years of 13 and 19 points in around the same 40 games. He should be ready to jump straight to the NHL next year, which is why we dont want to trade him.

The problem about Subban for us is that we don't want to take on ~6M when Laine and Pionk will need large extensions after next year, and also maybe an even bigger issue is that the Jets fanbase hates him. Like I mean really hates him. Like when he played for the Preds he was booed every single time he had the puck. Every single time. That doesn't happen with any other player here. I don't see Chevy making a move for him simply because of that reason. As a player he's a definite upgrade, it's just he won't fit in here.
