I'd never do that as Boston and not as Carolina either. You're getting the best player back in the Tampa trade, and regardless they're not extending pageau, so that one makes no sense

Aside from the Boston deal, these don't seem too outrageous to me. I'd imagine they are okay with attaching their first round pick with Backes to offload his contract, but I think they can get a better return than Hainsey.

Carolina trade isn’t even considered unless you make it CARs first and it’s conditional regarding making the playoffs. If CAR doesn’t, then it becomes CAR 2nd for OTT 4th or something.

Boston says no unless they get a better player.
I think if Tampa goes All In, they might do it but idk which 1st they could include. Joseph has been in the dog house quite a bit.
I feel like Ottawa is losing the Edmonton trade.
And I dont really like the style of the Carolina trade cuz this never really happens irl

The Carolina AGM has been to couple recent sens game and they been on the record saying that they are willing to move on of their 1st round picks.

Maybe the conditions become the later of the two 1st round pick, top 10 protected?

Also, I have a feeling that they going to after Boro (because of his physicality)... Obviously that changes the return

Why not?

I feel like DeMelo's value is a 2nd.

And at the draft, it usually costs teams two seconds to move up into the late first round.

I kinda like it.

The leafs just paid a 1st to get rid of 1 year of Marleau at 6.25M, along with a 7th, and in return they only got a 6th. Hainsey is worth much more than a 6th. Just figured thats the price

yeah but usually its a draft trade because draft positions are set, but Demelo doesn't have term.

Fair enough...

But I still think DeMelo as a rental is much more valuable right now (900k) than if he had an extension (>3M)

And the trade would have to conditional. (highest of the seconds and lowest of the first?)

I would be honestly okay with all of these trades.

BOS: If Backes is willing to waive, I would do this. We should retain on Hainsey though.

EDM: This is a bit dicey, but I kinda just want to see Duke on McDavids wing lol. Im also higher on PoolParty than most.

We could keep Gagne for 1 year, use him as a warm body and move him at next years deadline.

TBL: I would also agree that we need to take the TBL 1st instead of VAN

CAR: I would be okay with giving them a condition on that pick. Whichever the higher of the picks CAR/TOR

my personal opinion is that this is what Ottawa and Detroit and any other team in this situation should be doing. Bury some cap and acquire picks. I think it would be smarter to space them over a couple years though. don't want to have too many firsts hit in the same year for future cap issues. Also, I think Duclair should be held on to unless you get a great offer. Young guy cable of scoring even more IMO...

Keep in mind the TOR is already conditional on top 10, where it would convert to 2021 unprotected. This is why I think the Canes would be more willing to move their own.

Yeah but the fact that the Leafs did doesn't mean every team will
