Trade idea for the playoffs

Description
I have a specific trade...so yes I meet the descrptions

Also want to see what WAS fans thought of Holtby and if goal is their #1 concern. Sams has been good. No doubt, but is the net position your #1 concern going into the playoffs? Wouldn't a SOLID backup that's been there before AND $3.1M in extra cap space for other moves be nice to have?

Pending UFA Holtby isn't likely to get a return. He's been one of the worst goalies in the NHL this year. I can't see a playoff team taking on $6.1M in cap...for a sub par (currently playing) goalie. No?

Brett Leason is a good prospect....they have PLENTY of cap space to take on Holtby.

They have Lehner...
Plus they have to resign Lehner, Strome, AND Kubalik
Care to explain that one?

Yeah, Holtby is a pending UFA and has zero cap hit next year. This trade doesn't affect next year...at all.

If anything, the Caps need a 2nd pairing lefty or righty to take the place of either Kempny or Jensen. I think he (Holtby) will be fine by the playoffs.

So why would it make sense to trade for an expiring goalie when they have a great starter

Think Gus could help? 20+ ATOI can play he is a lefty, but has played on both sides.

For the prospect.

So they give away an expiring goalie, for a sh*ttier expiring goalie, and they give up one of their top prospects?
Explain why that makes sense?

I can’t see Chicago doing this. There is no benefit moving a pending UFA for another. The return to retain half of Crawford’s salary is not enough. McMichael would be the prospect I would want.

As for Washington ... #1 Holtby had an off season the year they won. Acquiring goaltending depth can be cheaper. Howard (Detroit) Anderson (Ottawa)

Who's they? You said why would Chicago do this trade?

BOTH teams should want this trade. WAS gets a FAR better goalie. and $3.1M in cap space. CHI gets a prospect for the future. What's so complicated?

That's not realistic. McMicheal isn't an option even if CHI added picks/prospects. WAS is wanting to win today. If they love Holtby that much...sign him again in the offseason for a more reasonable contract. He's lost his stuff this year.

Is Gus just an offensive defensemen or can he actually play defense (I haven't watched him play)? Personally, Caps need someone to play defense in the top 4 that is stout.

Crawford is 35 years old. He has 1 more good year in him and then he retires
Also Lehner is much better than Holtby obviously
Holtby can bounce back next year obviously
This trade is just brainless, essentially they’re giving away a top prospect for a goalie that will do them good for 1 more year

I'm so confused by you. You said...CHI wouldn't do the trade. Now you're saying WAS wouldn't do the trade. Lehner has nothing to do with the trade. It's for a cup run. WAS can improve in net and get cap for another move.

I’m saying it wouldn’t make sense for either side
They’re downgrading so much by trading for Crawford
I’m convinced you’re on drugs

This is just as bad for the Caps as it is for Chicago. Washington is having a very good season and Holtby is a big part of the success. Winning a cup this year by far out weighs getting a return for Holtby.

Well getting a prospect for CHI is the main goal. CHI can take the $6.1M in cap this year and Holtby might not even be their backup. He might just ride the bench the rest of the season. I really can't see how this is a negative for CHI. WAS on the other hand trades away a prospect, but they get a FAR better goalie and $3.1M in cap for another move so they can actually maybe get a defenseman.

This is Holtby 35 games played 19-10-4 record 3.11 GAA .896 SV% -12.27 GSAA Just let up 5 goals against the wild card Nashville. TERRIBLE
