Conservative cap but works nicely

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2020
Published: Jan. 31, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- $83.5M cap
- Ladd NOT on LTIR
- No "major" cap dump trades either (i.e. Ladd or Boychuk)

ANA:
Looks like time for a rebuild. They need RD and a combo of picks/prospects. Rakell is versatile and could fit a few of NYI's needs.

WPG:
They don't have much defensive depth behind Morrissey and Pionk. Leddy is easily a #2 or #3 guy for them. Isles get back a young player whose name has been floated around and a mid round pick.

CGY:
Hickey caught in numbers game. Would be a top-6 D with NYI if not for complicated Juniors situation with Dobson. Don't want to hear that teams wouldn't take Hickey for free when he was waived so I attached a 3rd. CGY doesn't have much LD depth going into next season.

AZ:
Grabner is on an expiring deal and is familiar with Long Island. Would be a decent option to fill the fourth line. AZ adds an early pick and JHS in return for this swap.

Rakell would be great with Barzal. Your trade is well thought out, but Anaheim would probably hold out for the 2020 first. That or put Wilde in place of Bellows -- the Ducks have enough forward prospects.

In my mind that trade happened in this offseason after the 2020 draft. Could it take place while Isles are on the clock this year? Absolutely. I'd make the change to this year if it had to be

Hickey and Grabner trades are unnecessary IMO, but the others I love.

They were necessary to get under the cap. Had to do something that was still reasonable in order to make the trades above it work

I like these moves, but I think Pulock and Toews could be $1M less each.

I think Marcus Pettersson just set the floor with Toews on a long term deal (he got $4.025 x 5) and Ivan Provorov is probably slightly better than Pulock but in the ballpark of what he should get. (Provy signed for $6.75 x 6)

That's right on for Pulock but I think he takes max term. I think Toews get's around 5. Maybe for 4 years.

Just as an added discussion point: I don't really see any way the Isles don't have Matt Martin come back.

Certainly possible but it's gotta be for vet min. We have the in house options. Not to mention the fourth line has had significant time split up because of individual injuries. We've survived

Accidentally double posted. I'll just add to this by saying if Martin walked it's finally possible to move Cizikas to 3C and give him increased PT.
