With the way Chucky has played for the Pens, you don't think Drouin would be an upgrade? flushed cheeks

not in our system, he is somehow worse defensively, and wouldn't be much of an upgrade offensively in the role he'd be given (basically the same as Galch)

I've seen both guys extensively and although they are both offense first players, they suffered from different deficiencies. Galchenyuk's will and compete level is what killed him. he felt he didn't need to compete hard because he was talented enough to not have to.

Drouin plays hard and has the will to want to succeed. He just gets clumsy defensively and doesn't always make the smart play at the right time.

Maybe he's not the right fit for the Pens granted but I am almost certain he'd fit in better than Galch did with you guys. By a country mile.

Galchenyuk - 41 games 5 goals 11 assists
Drouin - 19 games 7 goals 8 assists

Granlund isn't a 3rd line center. He is a top 6 winger. He would be as effective as Brassard was because he isn't suited for that role.

Drouin would be an upgrade over Gally but that package is more than Taylor Hall was traded for and sorry Drouin although younger isn't worth more than Hall.

Why trade for Rodrigues? Seriously tell me why he helps? He's a small two way player that doesn't score. We have a ton of those. Lafferty, Johnson, Di pauli. If you're gonna dump Bjugstad get a pick not a player who won't even crack the lineup

I think context is needed when you proclaim something like this:

Aside from Drouin being younger, he is signed 4 more years at 5.5M. Hall is a pending UFA whose expecting to get paid big boy money (10-11M x 7 years range) and not giving any indication that he is signing with the team he gets traded to. Not too mention NJ trading him from a point of weakness.

I think Hall is a better player too but is he more valuable at the time of these trades? I actually don't think so. Many factors go into player trade value not just goals and points.

I get the contract for Drouin but I also view that as a deterrent. What did Drouin do to earn that contract? He has had one 20 goal season. He is inconsistent and not sound defensively. Galchenyuk in terms of point production is basically even with Drouin over their careers(not this season obviously). And everyone thinks Zucker isn't worth a big package that has a 1st round pick and his production is also very similar.

So why pay a Taylor Hall package for a inconsistent but talented player who may not fit in or improve in Pittsburgh and be stuck with that contract for 3 more years.
Not saying I wouldn't like Drouin on the wing but I wouldn't overpay for him either.

I didn't make this but I'm guessing it's for the shorter contract (don't have to pay Bjugstad 4 million in a tougher cap season next year)

I think you may be getting beside the point here. If you don't like Drouins contract, that is another topic. I was just putting context to a statement about it matching Hall's return. Very different circumstances and that changed everything for what Hall was supposed to get in return for NJ.

NJ also got Hall for Larsson previously, does that mean players like Larsson should be able to get players like Hall now? Context is important here. NJ got less for Hall than what they TECHNICALLY should have based on a perfect scenario. So comparing Hall's return to Drouins is like Apples and oranges. One player got a rental package. The other is younger and under contract for a while longer at an AAV that is suited for 50 point players. Whether you agree with it or not.
