Occams Razor deadline - ANA and SJ

Created by: Propeller09
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2020
Published: Jan. 31, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They get a tougher & If Kase can revert back to the player he has been in previous season, this could be really good. Production hasn't been there, but he is a possession monster. Feel like Kase would have similar chemistry as Johansson did.

Yeah, no. As I said, Grant is ok, Take out his 10 goals and let me know how it looks.

Kuraly, Wagner & Nordstrom all kill penalties as well.

Also - You literally cannot get much worse on their possession numbers. 40.3 Corsi and 39 Fenwick is really. really. really. really. really. bad.

Take out Kuraly's 13 assists and your guys look much, much worse. Don't forget that in addition to DesLauriers' totals, you have to add Devin Shore because they shared time at LW earlier in the season and Shore also spelled Grant during his recent injury.

You've been silent about the defensive disparity between the respective groups, Corsi numbers notwithstanding. In particular, have you compared defensive-zone starts?

That's an entirely reasonable position, and a sound basis for rational debate or discussion. What I was objecting to was the allegation that Boston's fourth line is "better" than Anaheim's "by a lot."

Two things about DesLauriers: (1) he split time earlier this year with Devin Shore, so you really have to combine their numbers to see how effective #4LW is, and (2) he's the team's protector and a lot tougher than most players on most teams, as evidenced by the fact that he leads the League in fighting majors.

I'd like to know if you've compared ToI minutes for the six respective players (I haven't). Given their pk time, I think Grant and Rowney probably exceed quite a few of the Anaheim third-liners and I'd be interested to know how they stack up against Boston's fourth liners.

The Bruins' trio averages almost 13 minutes a game. Honestly I think they can be out there for a shift or two long per game because I really like the Bruins 3rd line but it just speaks to how confident Cassidy is putting them out there. Dont see many 4th lines getting icetime with 5 minutes left down a goal but this one does

I sent the link that compared them. You also need to add lindholm into the bruins mix as well.

Point being Bruins 4th line is better. I am willing to admit Rowney is a little better than I gave him credit for, but Nordstrom will get a nice pay check this offseason.
I mean Grant has been in the NHL for 7 seasons and never made more than 700K. I mean if he was that good, please explain why he keeps singing one year min deals? why wouldn't ANA lock him up.

If all of your guys are sooo good. Why are the ducks heading for their 2nd sub .500 season in a row?

For the same reason that Connor McDavid has never won a Stanley Cup.

Yeah, not so much. When trying to make a point that your scrubs are good, you probably don't want to compare them to Connor McDavid.

To address what said and answer your question: so the ducks have 3-4 elite players, including two of the top 8 or so players in the league (both under 25) and team with a bunch of bad contracts? who are your elite? Deslauries, Rowney and Grant?

Kase is worth a late 1st alone. Taking Backes would also cost a 1st. Not a chance ANA accepts that offer. Would likely need a legit RHD coming back if we’re moving Kase, otherwise it just doesn’t really make sense

NOPE.

I think this trade is a lot closer than my Anaheim colleagues, but you're still a little short by something between Axel Andersson and Connor Clifton. You are right, Kase by himself is not worth a first, but there is some value to taking on Backes' contract (there is no need for you to retain anything, particularly inasmuch as Bob Murray has said the Ducks are okay with taking on a bad contract).

There are many variations on this trade that make a lot of sense for both teams, but your basic idea here is a great outline. We just have to decide on the last 5% or 10% of the deal.

Yeah - ish... Top 4 ceiling at best. Never going to see the ice in Boston behind McAvoy and Carlo.

Huh? We got more for Kase than you proposed in this deal. Well done on also incorrectly valuing Kase.
