Description
As the title says the angle here is a Big trade hopefully bringing in a top 6 center to help today .

First off lets address the Elephant in the room that is NP undisclosed Head Injury to end last season that's quickly developed into a Migraine disorder with him sitting out the entirety of the year so far. This doesnt kill his value but we have to look at this responsibly and say its likely Concussion related even if PHI doesnt like those terms .

NP will recover as Poehling has but the reason i brought it up was to point out continued exposure in a system like PHI known to play a rough game will lead to further issues where as in MTL Patrick much like Danault would be responsible for Possession and positional play then physicality . He's already much further ahead in the Faceoff area then Suzuki,Poehling , KK or Domi for that matter which we'll need if we're trading Danault .

Some ArseHat on here pointed out Danaults good but if we're really serious about being a regular Contender we should go all in with young Centers 22 or under. I hate to admit it being a Danault fan since Junior but he was right . This sparked the thought of giving PHI a way to bolster their lineup today for a cup run while also helping MTL out long term (even if we have to wait a season to play NP or worse its worth it)

I figured the easiest player to win over PHI in a trade is Drouin given his play vs his cap and that he's 4th in NHL Faceoffs taken and Wins . Currently PHI has 3 Centers taken almost 95% of the draws with only 2 over 50% and your 3 line center dragging ass . Whether you play Danault on 3rd or 4th he'll help you at a cap you cant pass up with a year of term left for a 2nd cup run .

Kotkanemi goes to Laval until next year to log top line Center minutes and get his confidence back while helping Laval to our first real playoff run in a while both at the NHL and AHL level we need a win .
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Patrick, Nolan
  2. Raffl, Michael
Additional Details:
PHI gets a 1st in 2020 (lets say 8th OA)

PHI Upgrades 31 year old Micheal Raffl for the Younger ,Bigger a Better skater.
PHI
  1. Armia, Joel
  2. Danault, Phillip ($1,500,000 retained)
  3. Ikonen, Joni [Reserve List]
  4. 2020 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Danault at 1.583m cap with 1 year term remaining for 37pts in 52 games while remaining top 5 in Faceoff wins and draws .(That's 2 more then CG and 1 less then JV to provide context if Danault joined)

Armia is a big bodied 6'4 two way player who's speciality is controlling the puck along the boards keeping his team in the OZ long enough to drive the net and cause havoc.

Ikonen (Or Norlinder )
2.
MTL
  1. Schneider, Cory
Additional Details:
Equal cap swap with 1.75m coming off 1 year early

the selling point though is to move on from our 1-6m dollar AHL players with Term and give them a shot at the NHL again possibly .

  1. Alzner, Karl ($300,000 retained)
  2. Kinkaid, Keith
Additional Details:

equal cap swap
Van gets rid of a player who didnt work out after having career highs in MTL last year .
Van gets a 13th forward who can draw into the line up and play a bottom 9 role in any forward position . He's great during injurys but should never be relied on as a starter

his value is low right now because his future is unclear

but my problem is giving them the 8th OVR pick because whoever we draft there will have a higher floor (because of uncertain future) and higher ceiling (DEEP draft) than NP

Danault and Armia have also found their stride and are still on the right side of 30 too

I concur with Big oaf. Haha

Billy, this is absolutely bonkers. 0.00000 incentive do this trade from a Habs perspective.

He's 21 has two 30 point seasons while jumping straight to NHL Center position winning 50.9% on 1,522 faceeoffs.
Incase you hadnt noticed of the Center's we've slotted the past few years from Chucky to Drouin , Domi to Kotkanemi , Suzuki to Poehling
with only Suzuki even coming close to touching the 50% mark and putting up 30 points .

Think of where Danault was at his age and what we molded him into .
His back injury's were bad enough CHI basically paid to get rid of him giving us a 2nd to boot for Weise and Fleischman .
Now factor in Patricks a better player and will likely get through these issues stronger same as Danault did.

MTL takes Diaz trading him for Weise
Takes Weise and a UFA signing Fleischman giving us Danault and Romanov
takes Danault and trades him giving us Nolan Patrick #2 OA pick and Romanov

all spawning from MB first Undrafted Find Raphael Diaz having 1 semi good year and Weise having a bad one with the line brawl vs CGY i believe it was .

Could he be Valuable ?
Absolutely and gives MTL a chance to trade 2 pending UFA's , a player injured 2/3 last seasons (different injuries but still fallen back in the depth chart)
the #8 OA is a big ask but the odds of getting a top line Center out of Patrick are way higher then in this draft
No way Byfield , Perfetti or likely Lundell will do more.

in the end MTL can pay to bring both Danault and Armia back if thats what they want
they're really only outright saying by to the chance at a middle 5 forward or 2nd pair D and ikonen .
