Galchenyuk to Chicago

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2020
Published: Feb. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bowman likes reclamation projects. Low risk move to see how a guy fits on the team. If they like him, they can sign him. If not, they can move on.

Penguins don't need the cap space and can retain half to move him.

Obviously, Chicago has a lot of LWs right now. They can try him at C, RW, move Kubalik to the right side, or send Nylander down (since he isn't doing much anyway).

Penguins then make another move for a winger.

Chicago would probably gamble on him for a low pick like that given the amount of cap space we have open this year.

I'd say no salary retention if that's the pick Chicago is sending. Pittsburgh most likely wants the cap space for another deadline deal if they're making this trade.

Capfriendly has the Penguins with $6,322,963 in deadline space. And that's without Guentzel on LTIR. They really don't need the space.

Something like this could be done with or without the retention. My reasoning is that if he was easy to move, it would have happened by now. Maybe just give a team more incentive to take him.

True, but as part of a deal he could still be useful. The problem is who to replace him with unless we're trusting a young guy to help in the playoffs. Not that galchenyuk would help more I just figure something like this would only happen if it was part of a bigger picture deal to get pieces for a playoff run.

He played 4:30 of ice time last night. He’s clearly not trusted at the moment.

With Bjugstad and Kahun healthy and the plan to add another winger via trade, he’s the odd man out of the lineup. The 13th forward can be Lafferty or cheap forward acquired that Sullivan trusts to play in defensive situations or to kill penalties.

I agree, and I'm betting the only reason he hasn't been moved yet is because he needs to be used to acquire a piece for a bigger trade or he's to be used in that bigger trade. The issue is that obviously he's useless defensively, takes stupid penalties, and has no chemistry with anyone....

I'd be down for this, even without the retention.

that 6.3m number takes into account dumo and bjug on IR also, so im not sure what the number will be without them. i think we can afford to retain - but im not sure.

That’s false. Neither player is on LTIR. Both count for the cap. Number is actually higher when both are healthy and they can send down AHL guys.

No problem. To put it simply,

IR=you get an extra roster spot when player is injured

LTIR=you can go over the cap (by the amount equaling the player’s cap hit) and get an extra roster spot when a player is injured.
