Lets talk about right shot options realistically

Created by: SammyT_51
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2020
Published: Feb. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Unrealistic options:
Matt Dumba - expensive and absolutely not needed
TJ Brodie - he has Toronto on his no-trade list
Travis Hamonic - Doesnt fit D with term but contract can be solved. My issue is more than anything that Calgary likely would be in playoff spot. So unless they get right shot top-6 forward for him, I dont see him getting traded. And they aint getting Kapanen for him imo.
Josh Manson - Anaheim loves Manson as much as you love your wife, so thats a no-go
Brett Pesce - you think with Hamilton injury, they would trade another RHD? You nuts?
Alex Pietrangelo - dont even think about that
Connor Murphy - thinking about it, Chicago is close to competing again and they would not let Boqvist be their main right shot guy as much as they can gain from sell like Murphy.

Realistic options:
David Savard - They apparently want top-6/top-9 forward help for one of their Dmen is something Ive heard so possibly Savard makes sense. This is least realistic of the options but still realistic enough that it is considered as such here. He can be easily in other column is all Im saying.
Alec Martinez - leftie but shoots right. Defensively responsible two-way defenseman who would likely play with Rielly and form a nice tandem for this year and next.
Jonas Brodin - another leftie that can easily play right side. Defensive defenseman who is really good and would fit right in with the Leafs system. Price might get into Kapanen+, but it would be worth it.
Nick Jensen - his style would fit in with Leafs well, he has low value trade wise and is solid defensively enough to play with Morgan Rielly. Also great skater.
Troy Stecher - two-way defenseman who is a good skater and solid defensively. I think he might be more realistic than Tanev because imo they can get more for him and not hurt their roster as much.
Chris Tanev - Leafs were in on him for long time now, but IMO Nucks would keep him for playoffs if they are in that position on TDL. Less realistic option than Stecher.

Expect Leafs to trade for those in second paragraph rather than for those in first.

vancouver would bite on that i think... we would want gauthier, not petan... we have too many wingers and are too light on center

Absolutely brutal WPG trade, and I would assume VAN accepts, i think Stecher is quite overrated on this site

Add Brandon Carlo and Ryan Pulock to the unrealistic category simply for completeness of survey.

Consider Scott Mayfield and Connor Clifton for cheap possibilities.

As long as you're thinking about David Savard, you might as well include Markus Nutivaara, another leftie who plays the right side.

You should have a third category for Don't Bother. In particular, I don't want to hear about Adam Larsson or Kris Russell.

Agreed. I didn't include Brandon Carlo or Pulock as options because Pulock is Isles best D and Carlo is a Bruin.

Brutal? I don't think getting solid #5 guy and 4th liner for not needed bottom-6 centre is brutal but add a pick of some sorts like 4th or 3rd to it to make it more close..

Copp is the jets second or third best possession player, is 7th on the team in ES p/60 and ES p1/60, and he's playing with ADAM F*CKING LOWRY, A LITERAL OFFENSIVE BLACK HOLE (you can have him for this package for all I care)

Oh yes I know that very well. He is still a bottom-6 centre. Likely third line centre which means I should add a bit.

Do I say I'd much prefer him in my top 6 than Wheeler... yes

Wheeler has one less goal than Copp has points. Wheeler is a passer. That's a big yikes from me.

Tbh you should move Savard to a 3rd category, not realistic till the offseason. As Columbus isn’t going to trade him until the offseason, unless we are able to get a top 6 center back for him. And even at that I wouldn’t move him right now, he’s our best defensive Defenseman, who eats minutes and blocks a lot of shots.

I like jensen a lot but I would rather get gudas out of WAS. Complements rielly's game extremely well and has that scariness that the boomers out there think the leafs need. I like guys having that kind of element is they are actually able to play and gudas can.

Dillon is another option that you forgot about but I dont think he can play the RS and SJ fans on here think hes baby freaking jesus

Ah yes, raw point totals, ignoring the fact that Wheeler plays mostly with the Jets best winger, and Copp is saddled with having to drag ADAM LOWRY around... and ignoring the fact that Copp missed a significant amount of games due to injury, and Wheeler hasn't, and their defensive abilities (which are even more important with the defense they play in front of...) and the fact that their 5v5 p1/60 isn't nearly as far apart as it should be considering the gift of a line mate Wheeler has been handed

I think this is all fair. WPG trade could be tweaked but it is relatively fair.

I think you should look at what Buffalo can offer. They have a surplus of defensemen. Collin Miller might cost a 2nd/3rd and Petan at most? Comes cost controlled for the next few years. 27 right now, likely playing his best hockey on this contract when Toronto would need him to.

Yeah that’s going to be a no from the Jets, Copp is too important and versatile for us to want to trade him.

Agreed. I don’t know what a realistic haul for him is, but they need him for their potential playoff run.

The only name from the realistic options i would really like to get is Savard but i don't think CBJ is in a position to trade away defensemen when they are going to be battling for a playoff spot down to the wire. I think Stecher is underrated and Green apparently hates him, but im not sure i want another undersized defense man on the blue line. Jensen was someone i wished the leafs targeted last year, he has had a pretty **** year so far from what i can tell though.
