Zucker and Simmonds

Created by: Bcarlo25
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2020
Published: Feb. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m under the impression that the Wild would prefer to trade Zucker. I guess I could be totally off on that, but he’s circled in trade talks so dang much. He’s a nice middle six add that could be perfect for the bruins. Simmonds is depth and toughness, and probably some net front on PP2.

How do you wild fans think this addresses the organizational need of the Wild? Let’s operate under the assumption that Zboril is an NHL ready prospect, as i think he is, with a floor of a good bottom pair guy with the potential to play up to an average 2nd pair guy. Arguing, “this prospect is bad,” “no, he’s good,” doesn’t get us anywhere.

Bjork has been playing really well of late, getting into the bruins top six and scoring a fair bit. 5 points in his last 8 games.

All debating aside whether these prospects are good or bad, I think that since they're taking Backes, BOS should overpay by default. Giving up "debatable" assets shouldn't be an option.

Their biggest need is right handed C or generally right handed forward prospects as they are lacking in that department. This makes Studnicka an extremely interesting option for them, their best players now and their best forward prospects are all left handed. Bjork is also a left handed left winger, the one kind they're absolutely filled with and have zero need for.

I'd say replace Bjork with Studnicka and take a 3rd from MIN in the deal. Backes+Studnicka+Zboril+1st for Zucker+3rd might be an overpayment from BOS, but as I said in the beginning, in order to ship Backes elsewhere they need to overpay.

Bjork is primarily a right winger. That’s where he’s playing now, that’s where he’s spent most of his time in the NHL.

Any conversation that involves Studnicka abruptly ends negotiations. Sounds like Bjork really fills the Wild’s needs!

(This is an overpay to ship backes)

He's still left handed. Left handed wingers are the one thing Wild doesn't need at all, regardless of the wing he mainly plays.

And it's not really. The 1st is at least the cost for dumping him (see Marleau as example). Bjork and Zboril will not get you Zucker.

I feel like a broken record here, but the Backes situation is much much much different than the Marleau situation. It’s an example, but not a good one.

Who cares what hand he shoots? Doesn’t the position he plays matter a heck of a lot more?

Not for a team like MN who has 1 top-9 FWD that is a RHS and the best 2 prospects (Kaprizov and Boldy) are also LHS wings.

I mean feel free to swap in Senyshyn for Bjork. I figured Bjork had a lot more value to minnesota because he’s a RW that has been playing in the top six and doing a good job of it.

You like to be able to pepper the goaltenders from different directions and angles so a team full of lefties doesn't accomplish this. Though I would agree it's a bit overrated.

Not really, when aside from Zuccarello, Hartman and Kunin every single forward are left handed. At some point it affects their game when they can for example shoot one-timers from only one side of the ice.
Just an example. It compromises your game.

Also they're quite stacked in the right wing as well. Zuccarello, Fiala, Donato, Hartman and Kunin as well, although he could play C as well.

Backes situation is a bit different one, but the gist of it is that he has one year left, he isn't good enough for the team and they need the money.

Sure, but he doesn’t have a no move. The bruins would like to move him, but they don’t have to. His buyout cost is only 3 million in real dollars. Honestly he probably could play for the wild.

It’s a bummer that the bruins don’t really have any center prospects that they could reasonably trade to make this deal work. I think Zucker is a really good fit.

I'm still wondering where Zboril fits. He'll hit waivers next year, same as Senyshyn.

Bjork doesn't fit anywhere in the lineup for MN. Zucker is being traded to open up a spot for Donato/Kaprizov. Adding Bjork just means MN has to trade another wing also.

The value might be fine, the fit isn't there. MN has d-men and wings covered.

Keep Bjork. He's got top6 upside and just keeps improving. Question for Wild fans (if they see it): how many times has Zucker played RW and is he enough comfortable there? Can he produce as much as he do on the left side? (Same for those who want Kreider). I don't see Zucker often but if he's the solution for RW (even though he has played LW, for what, 95% of his NHL career), do the deal. Otherwise I would try to go for a " real " RW.

Simmonds is not the same player anymore, rather just keep Nordstrom who can play on the PK and be " good " defensively.

Zucker played RW his first couple years. He's better on the LW side. He's just not as good making and receiving passes on his backhand side as he is his forehand.

Totally hear ya on Minny not needing another LW on their end, especially with Kaprizov. On the Bruins side, to me they are not desperate enough to give up Studnicka just to dump Backes for one year. Obviously with the term on Zuckers contract money would need to be moved but i cant imagine it would be at the cost of Studnicka. This may just be a deal that doesnt come to fruition on either end for those reasons.

Bjork is a left handed shot. He can play both sides for sure, played on the Right side at Notre Dame as well as at the pro level. I think the point is, is that Minnesota has only two right shot forwards on their entire team, and one of them is a center. So they dont need another left shot forward playing the right side to go along with Zucc, Fiala, Greenway. Also, they are trying to get rid of a winger to add Kaprizov from russia so adding another one doesnt make sense.
