They didn’t draft him to trade for a rental

He was drafted 10 days prior to knowing Bob would sign. Either way, it’s a position of strength. they can trade Bob or knight for a need at any point.

I can’t imagine though in 5 years the Panthers wanting a $10M backup goalie. That contract is a tough one.

He's 18 and by the time he's ready Bobrovsky will be 35 give or take a year.
as Knight develops stamina and adjusts to life on an NHL schedule where S*(^ isnt planned around school
it will end up being another year after his NCAA tenure atleast .

FLA has all the incentive to leave him there to perfect his craft the next 4 years and maybe win a Championship.
Unlike with Primeau and Price , our Young Rookie Standout was on a garbage NCAA team where as Knights top dog in one of the best College's systems in America today .

To be honest in the long run it will help you more then Kulikov , Crouse or Denisenko who were picked from around the #13 spot Knight was taken at .
You coulda taken York or Caufield but lets be honest the odds of Knight being a top 10 goalie in the NHL in the future are higher then either York or Caufield being top 10 in their respectively position.(both are great but have holes that might take years to overcome where as Spence Knight has no hole's and is in USA best system for pushing out NHL players)

I feel like it'll be ok, since Knight can have 4 years to develop in the minors (it's always good to give goalies time), then he can move up to the NHL as the backup and over the course of 3 seasons slowly take on more responsibility. Knight could take over as the starter after 2 years of being Bob's backup, which would mean Bob is the backup for the last season only which is fine. Goalies need more time to develop.

The Sens probably don't do that. It's a huge overpayment. They're not likely to trade their two strongest trading chips this deadline and a pick for a goalie prospect, even one as good as Knight. They've got Hogberg doing well in the NHL and another 4 goaltending prospects that look solid or better. Pageau is reportedly looking like a 1st round pick return on the market, DeMelo is not going to be moved for a low price, and they're not adding a 2nd rounder if the only add on to Knight is a cap dump.

I agree. I try to put more on the team I'm not a fan of to reduce bias.
