I think a 2nd is fair but bettman doesnt have the balls. Hes to worried about parity to hand out punishment, especially to a team that historically hasn't done will, taking away a bunch of picks from them wont help them become more competitive. Honestly I dont think what they did was that bad, they should be worrying about dops first

They did fitness testing on players which is not allowed. Gives them an advantage when drafting players especially later in the draft.

I mean scouting guys 4 months earlier than every other team gives a huge advantage to your scouts, if they see stuff they don't like they're going to go scout other guy instead of losing their time on certain prospects..

If I'm the NHL Arizona's giving me the list of who was at your illegal private combine and everyone on that list can't be drafted by your team, on top of that I remove your second round pick and 5th next year.
If I'm the NHLPA I give a call to every agency/manager who's client went to this combine and make it clear that they better not send their guys at these events again.

For other way of cheating the MLB and NFL sent strong messages to teams, it's time for the NHL to show that they handle their league with transparency. (Offenses were worst than a private combine but as were the consequences)

When they miss the playoffs and get a top three pick in the lottery this year they should forfeit the condition they traded with jersey! ; )

I think they should if it's proven. Not sure what it should be but between "US$5-10M dollar penalty" figure?
(in the Houston Astros case (much worse) some pundits mentioned a US$40-50M hit to the franchise with respect to just the draft picks they lost)!

The Astros won though. I'm sure the penalty would be bigger if Arizona won the cup.

Hey L_&_S F...I was just quoting a sports tid-bit from Writers Block on Sportsnet...
As mentioned, I think the ARZ decision will come prior to any Cup (LOL) and is it $5M? $10M? less $$ or more $$ or picks, or both?

If you want to send a message you take their 1st in 2021 (assuming its the 2020 one NJD gets.)

if this isnt a big deal to them and they just want to pretend they're drawing a line in the sand for media then is a 2nd or 3rd .

To me you know the rules , you chose to break them
besides isnt it a little creepy ?

i mean 16-18 you're just starting to get Adult responsibilities and making some life choices for yourself .
12-13 you're still in middle school playing your pokemon , yughio or whatever you kids play these days (Magic and Pogs for my experience lol )
Let them enjoy their friends before they got to ignore them to travel to a new place in order to continue their careers as players .

The penalty is 250k per infraction. If they did this with enough players it is enough to sink the franchise.

The Coyotes only interviewed prospects about their work out routine and stuff like that they never did any physical testing with any of the players ,from the athletic

Yes, not too this extent but yes. Fining teams money does not deter them really. It only puts a price tag on how much tampering with young players costs. If the cost is 250K wouldn't you gladly pay that to talk to the next McDavid?

If you are fining them money it has to be attached to something tangible in the game. Not just the owners pockets. Attach the physical money to cap space and all of a sudden it means something. If they got a 2M fine along with a reduction in cap space by 2M, they'd be way more deterred. Although if you start fining them and also taking away draft picks, that also is an option.

yotes didnt even fitness test anyone they just had interviews with players asking about their workout routines and supplements .they asked them to wear shorts and tshirts to take look at their build but other than that they didnt physically test anyone

They aint paying him anything and hes a pretty respected guy also they talked about it on tsn saying the coyotes did some kind of physical testing but provided no examples or evidence suggesting that

Lol I was being sarcastic bud. Sticking Out Tongue

Obviously all of this talk of being dinged picks and or fined is solely based on being PROVEN guilty. If they are acquitted by the NHL than obviously nothing will happen. We're speaking hypothetically on them being found guilty of physical testing, etc.

If they are guilty, throw the book at them I say. If they aren't, nothing happens.

Interesting reading this now. Curious what you think since they took both the 2021 first and the 2020 2nd. I found it on google btw.
