Interesting offer for Dumba. Should be enough to get him or close to it but not sure Carolina should be going after another bigger defensive contract. You'd be better off with a rental. Wonder if bringing in Gus from Chicago would make sense as he plays mainly the right but both sides? Certainly would be cheaper to acquire and less hit on the cap freeing the Canes to make another move to bolster their bottom 6 if necessary.

I don't see us going all in like that on another big defenseman. We need a rental d-man this year and a top 6 forward.

As a Minnesota fan, I don't hate the trade depending on what the prospects project to be. They at least seem to be centers, which the Wild badly need.

If Ryan is anything like his brother, this deal will eventually be a steal, or win, for the Wild. That said, and especially with Doug Hamilton out, this seems like a reasonably fair deal for both sides, all things considered.

I think that the most likely outcome of the trade is 50/50. I'm really, really high on Suzuki, but Dumba has 3 seasons left on his deal, and at his very best, is very capable of being a #1 RHD. The reason that I think that Dumba's preferable to a rental is because Hamilton may be difficult to sign in the off-season. It just gives some extra positional insurance in case that the Canes have to Faulk him next off-season.

If Necas truly is off the table in a trade (and personally I think he should be), this would be a very intriguing offer for Dumba IMO. One of the better trades I've seen on here tbh, as you've filled the Wild's need for a potential top 6 center and a first round pick. Don't know a lot about Henman but his numbers in the Q this year are solid.

I see the merits in both directions as to why each team would make this deal, and why each team would think it's a win. Additionally, I hear your comments on Hamilton and think it's something that should be taken into account 100%. I guess my point was, sort of, that the Canes should keep Suzuki, at all costs. I am sure there is another way the Canes could make this deal. It would probably have to include Jake Bean and Jack Drury though, which are still 2 top Canes prospect, in addition to the 1st rounder and Henman.

The inclusion of Suzuki in the Dumba deal is not at all about me being low on him: he's an extremely good center prospect. That being said, it is a give-to-get situation, and Dumba's trade value is at a relative low right now. Dumba gives the Canes numerous ins-and-outs in the Hamilton extension talks. If Hamilton is willing to sign to a fair deal for both sides, they can run a league-best right side for one season and Dumba can then be easily flipped in the next off-season for a similar return that they gave up. If Hamilton's ask is too rich (like over $9.8M AAV for 8 years), they can make Dumba a long-term piece and either own-rental Hamilton or, more likely, organize a sign-and-trade for a Krebs/Caufield/Heinola/Zegras-caliber prospect.
