It's an overpay for one year of Petry even retained.

If it gets to the point that the Leafs are at the draft having (a) not acquired back a 1st for 2020, (b) still haven't acquired that big-game RHD and (c) still haven't made it out of the first round of the playoffs, I am sure the draft will be explosive as to what sort of deal(s) the Leafs make. In any event, I can't see them targeting Petry. I suspect the team is looking for a younger defender with term and control. I would also think Travis Dermott would be very much on the table, in addition to Kapanen, should he have been dealt by then.

How is a middle six winger, a future bottom six winger and a 2nd an over pay for a top RHD? Have you seen the asking price on rentals this year? Kreider asking price is apparently a top prospect and a 1st for 2 months of him, Petry has 3 less points and plays a more important position, it's an under pay.

Think about what the Leafs paid for Muzzin, that's where Petrys value is.
