Pretty sure a 20 goal scorer doesn’t need to be bought out. There’s a probably a deal in the league somewhere for Neal

Even with 33% retained a trade is a better option than a buyout.

Don’t like the idea of Starett as the #2 goalie, especially when paired with Koskinin.

Isn't that a awful trade for Ottawa. A 5 million player (which you signed for him for). Tierney, for Chaisson and a very iffy NHLer.

Buy out Neal, sign Hall, trade Hall for underperforming RHD, rinse and repeat

I would love a trade for Neal but I can't imagine one that gives the Oilers 3.83M savings per year on the cap.

The other option is hoping Seattle takes him, but that's another whole season away...

Not optimal, but I've saved another 800k in case there is a decent backup in the 1.5M range.

Who are you getting back in a Neal trade though? Another cap anchor most likley. I don't like buyouts but this gives you the ability to sign Hall to a competitive contract.

What do you add to Puljujarvi and Chaisson for Tierney? Mid round pick?

If you truly think Tierney is a 3.5m X 5 player, would think Ottawa wants a similar return like Bear.

I think Tierney is a good 3C. He makes 3 now, how much do you expect him to sign for? Less? No chance a 3C returns Bear.

Yea 3.5m might be going rate. I think of the Kerfoot signing. But Sens would like to want NH comparable hockey value back Oilers are in funny situation. High $$$$ players not many mid range young players like Tierney,

A pick. Any 25+ goal scorer at $3.8M has positive value. 33% retention adds the same amount of room as the buyout does, but it only lasts for 3 years vs 6.

Fair enough. If you can find a taker for Neal who'll send a pick back that's like finding Willy Wonka's golden wrapper. My thinking is that no team would do that, but I'd love to be wrong!

That's silly. Name 10 players in the entire league who consistently score 20+ goals per season and who got paid less than $3.8M in free agency.

You really think a team will give us a pick for Neal at 33% retained? I watch every Oilers game and Neal isn't your average 20+ goal scorer. Useless 5x5, slow, drags linemates down. He's purely a PP producer now.

You're also proposing that Neal will CONTINUE to score 20+ goals for the phantom team trading for him. Ain't gonna happen.

Best case scenario is we trick Seattle into taking him, but that'll take a miracle.

Pretty sure teams will be looking at the facts prior to making their decision. The facts disagree with your assessment.

So you think Neal is a pretty hot commodity then? Because he scored 20+ goals many times in his career? How many goals do you think he'll score in the final 3 years of his deal?

Why would any team give up a pick for Neal at 3.8M x 3 when they could just go grab a younger, better player like Leivo or Fast for less and give up nothing?

Nowhere did I say he was a "pretty hot commodity". Suggesting trading a player with 33% retained for a 5th round pick hardly constitutes a "hot commodity".

If I had to guess, I'd say 50.

Are you serious? A team looking for goal scoring is going to go after Leivo or Fast?! Fast has over 400 games of NHL experience and has scored... wait for it... an average of EIGHT goals per season! Talk about a hot commodity! tears of joy
