Toronto Detroit trades

Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2020
Published: Feb. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Detroit is Looking to get Prospect and 2nd. I believe this is roughly the equivalent. Edmonton would need Detroit to take back salary to make the trade work.
The Toronto trade, Ceci is pretty much negative value, so Gagner and Chaisson go back to offset salary. Then Benning and a second for Kapanen. (Or Andreas Johnson)

IMO JP and Lagesson are AHL players and that leaves Khaira as the only NHL player coming to Detroit and he isn't worth AA.

I know you have hate for JP since you seem to reply on nearly every thread with him going to DET but he is clearly an NHL quality player. His NHLe is sitting at 36 points which would rank him as a solid 3rd liner

Setting aside the first trade, it is too far fetched, the second trade involves a couple pieces that have been linked in media speculation. The suggestion that Holland and Yzerman would consider a Puljujarvi+ for Athanasiou is attractive to many Oiler fans... Perhaps it happens, but it seems a bit unrealistic to me.

Lagesson is NHL ready, but certainly won't be a top-four defender for a couple of years, if ever. Puljujarvi still has a big question mark beside his name. He's dominating a near-AHL level league, so perhaps that translates to being a very strong AHL performer this season. Could he evolve into a solid NHL player next year? Perhaps, but the odds are he plays 3rd line and is given a chance to move up from there.

On the other hand, Athanasiou is an RFA with arbitration rights and a history of being difficult during contract negotiations. He's got legitimate top six forward speed and skill, as well as an abyssmal +/- and some questions about consistency. Oh, and he's just returned from injury.

Holland only makes this deal if he is confident Athanasiou won't go to arbitration this summer. Yzerman only makes the deal if he's lost faith in Athanasiou and can't get a stronger offer.

Wouldn’t pay that much for someone who has identical pts to Alex Chiasson

I don't hate him I just don't think he is a NHL player. If he is clearly an NHL quality player what how come he is in Finland? Realistically with all the injuries in the NHL this season if he was a viable option he would've been back in North America in November. I don't know how people think he is even close to AA's value. AA is having an awful season but he has been on an NHL roster full time for 4 seasons now and JP has yet to stay in the NHL for one full season. When it comes to trading AA It probably won't happen this year even Yzerman said "It doesn't make sense to trade players at this point." AA has 2 more seasons before he is a UFA so trading with a return like this it just makes sense to hold on to him and see if he rebounds. I haven't commented on all the trades involving AA and JP. Lately I've only been replying to the posts where someone is bashing AA.

JP not playing in the NHL has nothing to do with his abilities.. 100% to do with him not wanting to be an Oiler and Holland wanting to get a decent return for his rights
