Agreed. What I mean by this is from a longterm outlook.

If MTL want to keep Danault longterm, and see guys like Kotkaniemi and Suzuki rounding out their top 9 C, that leaves Poehling with the #4C spot, and I seriously doubt MTL want to develop Poehling as a #4C, that would be a complete waste. Which is why it kind of makes sense that they are trying him out on the wing. but it's not working. Poehling is a center, end of story.

So from a longterm outlook (3 years + down the road) it would be better served to move him for a winger, and I think a Tolvanen v Poehling swap is pretty fair both sides.

Personally I'd like to keep him though.

What makes you say that? both Poehling and Tolvanen had incredible hype and success outside the NHL and AHL. Both were picked 5 spots apart in the same draft. Both played good not great in the AHL (if you actually look, they were both on pace for similar 40pts seasons in the AHL). Poehling is the more well-rounded Center (that in typical MTL fashion are currently misusing on the wing Huh? ) , Tolvanen a more one dimensional (which is why he's not getting called up) scoring winger. seems pretty fair to me

Danault is so important but Poehling is just the big physical 6’3 guy we needed. Perfect 3C like Charlie Coyle, would be useful in the playoffs, but in the other end Danault is doing a incredible job. Tough call

No, Poehling is a center so more valuable than a winger

Greg McKegg is a centre, much more valuable than Ovechkin. Get real. Tolvanen is much more valuable than Poehling because of the gap in skill

I agree with your argument. If we dont want to use him at C, we should move him. Alhtough it would be a mistake. This guy will be something in a few years, I feel it.

What, are you poehlings agent?

Many young players start on the wing as playing center defensively in the NHL is very demanding

Poehling is pretty good defensively (he was the cause of a bad goal vs CBJ the other night, but overall he’s been good and has also played on the PK)

My argument is from a longterm perspective. Habs probably don’t see Poehling displacing Suzuki or Kotkaniemi at Center, and they most likely plan on keeping Danault for the next 5-6years at least, and they don’t want to develop him as a #4C, hence the move to the wing. Not because the defensive demands of playing C.
