Really? Zuccarello for $4M is year is good. He's a top line play maker who's biggest issue is the contract...which is solved. Oh and VAN gets to shed the cap dump known as Eriksson. Virt plays less than 13 minutes a game. Take the better player...and better cap situation and say not take backs. Then laugh all the way to the bank!

I'd rather the Wild get a pick or prospect drafted in the last draft instead of Virtanen. Nothing against him, but I think the Wild need to look at a 5 year plan to start competing again once Suter and Parise are off the books.

That’s a valid point. I just really want a player like Virtanen on the Wild - right shot wing, big, strong, super fast, physical. These are the kinds of players that can really make a difference in the playoffs! I think Virtanen is just starting to figure out his game and is still plenty young enough to build a future with.

I may be dreaming, but I believe the Canucks and Eriksson will part ways after he gets his bonus payment in July. He doesn't have a much cash coming to him after that and has already moved his family away from Vancouver. So, I'm not sure the deal is necessary.

if your knocking a player like Virtanen because he plays less than 13 min a game take a look at the stats lol, Virtanen has more points playing 3-5 minutes less per game, so who's really the better player in this trade?..... the only lopsided part would be the Eriksson cap dump essentially for free as Virtanen = Zuccarello. Van says no rn as LE's contract isn't majorly affecting them (yet) and their first round pick is starting to live up to his potential. Zuccarello is 32 with 5 years left on a big contract and VAN can't afford to pay another declining vet. better to tough it out for this season and next, buy out the last year of the contract for 2m over 2 years than have 4m on the books for 5 years

Will be interesting to see what happens with Louie after this season. His contract becomes more attractive to a team that isnt spending to the ceiling. After his bonus he is only owed 5M in real dollars over two seasons which is close to what he is worth at this point in real dollars. Especially if the Canucks retain 1M of salary. Eriksson is strong defensively and plays smart, could be a good veteran option for someones bottom 6.

Power Forwards always take longer to develop. Jake has taken some big steps forward this year and signs point to him still getting better. His biggest knock has always been his hockey IQ, firm hands and vision/ passing. All of a sudden this year hes moving his feet and making smart plays. Showing off some filthy mitts and making good tape to tape saucy passes. The puck doesnt die on his stick anymore! Its been great to watch.
