PK without retention is worth that deal. One bad year doesn't make him a 3rd pairing guy.

You can't use "good ol' days" to describe one year ago. Also, yes, if you look at trades and how GM's operate, they value past performance a lot. If they only cared about this year's performance, PK would have negative value at his cap hit, and I can guarantee you that 31 teams would gladly pick him up for free.

But he doesn't have negative value, because everybody knows one bad season on a new team at age 30 doesn't mean a Norris player is washed up.
