TDL 2020

Created by: DirtyRebound
Team: 2019-20 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2020
Published: Feb. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Going to make this short and sweet then you all can have at it.

Bruins are going to pretty quiet at the deadline and the recent spike in price for Toffoli makes any of those trades a write off.

For these trades shown below, I can't see both of them happening, let alone 1 of them.

Thornton would have to actually want to return to the Bruins, and if so the Bruins should/would not pay more than a 3rd and a low level prospect. However, if he pulls a 2013 Iginla and requests a specific team to be traded to and it so happens to be the Bruins, it could work out in their favour.

For the Wood/Heinen trade, it is nothing we haven't seen speculated before. Both of these players only have 7 goals on the year and only a handful of assists separate them. I'm looking at Wood as the poor man's Kreider, straight ahead speed with much less finish but would bring some simplicity to the 3rd line. Bruins would be losing Heinen's two way ability but Wood isn't too far off in terms of defensive play and time spent on the PK unit. I would be shocked if Sweeney made this move just because I can't remember him ever making a true 1 for 1 trade but stranger things have happened.

All this being said, don't look for the Bruins to spend any more than a 3rd rd pick this TDL unless it is a trade they can't refuse.

Overpay for Thornton, Downgrading Hienen to Wood is dumb. Bad, but close

I agree a 4th would be a good price for Thornton but if it came down to them trading a 3rd, I wouldn't be completely opposed.

Heinen/Wood, I would say maybe Wood and a 3rd/4th, can't see NJ giving out another 2nd after the Subban trade.

Thornton ain’t happening. No interest on either side.

Heinen>wood.

As for the premise of your post, I couldn’t disagree with you any more. The bruins have two centers about to hit the decline. They’re going for it.

You're right, it would be the time to go for it but they've made such investments the last two deadlines. It will be a final hour trade if anything.

As for Thornton, where did you see there is no interest on either side?

More a question: If you could solidify the center position by bringing in thornton for a 4th or 5th (because he CERTAINLY isnt going for a 3rd lol), would you? This way Coyle can play his natural RW position (although he has been good at center), and they can still bring in Kase, Toffoli, or Kreider to play 2nd line RW

Imagine the perfection line
Debrusk - Krejci - Kase
Hienen - Thornton - Coyle
Wagner - Kuraly - Bjork

Screw it I may just make it an ACGM for the sake of getting feedback. Go comment on it man smile lol

Update: There is interest on the sharks side. And Thornton's side. Not sure about the bruins, but their need is 2nd line RW and/or 3rd line Center

Lets see what you got!

Agree it Would be great if they could land Kase but again after listening to Sweeney I can’t see him investing too much and adding more than 1 depth forward but lets hope Im wrong

1. Coyle is a center. That’s just what he is, it’s what he’s always been. Sometimes he plays out of position on the right wing.
2. Thornton is done. He doesn’t want to leave, and he wouldn’t provide anything to the bruins other than leadership.

A 2nd, a 4th, and useless Ryan donato is such an investment last deadline? Really? Logic indicates that this is the year to make a big deadline add.

As for where did i see there was no interest on either side, well, i know someone who’s friends with jumbo, and he doesn’t want to go anywhere. Having said that, just ignore that tidbit and go off logic. Why on earth would the bruins want him? He’s not good anymore.

For a team that lacks a solid prospect pool and is ranked 30th in such by the Athletic, the picks they make are going to be crucial over the next few years. Its not simply the value of the pick, its their situation that makes the picks valuable.

As Ive mentioned, Sweeney has essentially said he’s not going all in as he has in years past

1. No he hasn’t.
2. Even if he had, GMs lie. Almost habitually.
3. Who gives a damn about the picks? You think those guys are going to magically be top 6 centers in a couple years when Bergeron is a 3rd line center?
4. That athletic prospect ranking is pretty trashy. I read it. I’m a subscriber. That list made me re-think that. A lot of teams were way off. The bruins system is far from perfect, and pretty thin, but has a half dozen NHLers in it, and two really freaking good ones.

Omg he scored a goal? When’s the hall of fame ceremony. Sheesh. Coyle scored tonight too. Is he now the number one center over Bergeron?

I think he might be heading that way. Your hot takes aren’t looking so hot anymore

My hot take that the player that has outscored the other player each of the last three years is better? Ya. Super hot take. Total contrarian.
