I think NSH would take a flyer on Djoos -- but not sure he gets a 3rd considering he can't crack the WSH line-up after spending a good chunk of the 2 previous years playing in the NHL. Those types of players don't usually cost a 3rd - even if it is a 2021.

3rd line has been phenomenal the last month. Wouldn't mess with it. Plus NJD says no.

I agree that we should trade Holtby.

3rd line has been red hot. Love how they are playing right now and hope they remain consistent. Sammy got dinged by an OVI shot today at practice and they called up Vanacek. These kind of things, plus just your in game injury is why they probably shouldn't trade Holtby in season. Maybe they can trade his negotiating rights after the season (before the draft) and get something for that but otherwise I don't know if it's a good idea.

Panik is starting to play really well for us, I wouldn't move him. I'm not a fan of trading Holtby right now. Given that we don't know how Samsonov is going to fair in the playoffs, I'd rather keep one of the best playoff goalies of all time (statistically speaking). I know Samsonov has to get that experience sooner or later, but we're in a Cup window, and we've all seen the importance of having two quality goalies. I have no issue with giving Samsonov the start in the playoffs, but if he's struggling or the team needs a boost, then Holtby goes in.

Also not sure why we're trading away Djoos right now when we've seen how important defensive depth can be in the playoffs. I feel like I'm in the minority that's all in on winning another Cup right now, given the amount of Holtby for futures trades I'm seeing. Did we all forget the Grubauer situation in 2018? I see no reason why that scenario can't play out again.

all good analysis...but I think Sammy is gonna be a special case, not a Grubi type case...I think he could be just what the Caps need for the stretch run this year, like what Murray did to MaF a few years back when the Pens won their second cup of the back-to-back.

I think GMBM does some tinkering...and I also think Boyd is better than Panik...sure he's been decent the last couple weeks while the guys around him have been levelling off, but don't forget he's not exactly the droid the Caps were looking for. Boyd is quicker, he PKs, and he works his butt off...every game he gets in to, he scores or does something to make an impact...cannot say that about Panik.

I'm a big fan of Boyd too and I wish he could stick in the lineup, or at least get him rotated in more. If we do anything that involves changing a regular in the lineup, I'd like to see us get someone like Vatanen to replace Jensen. I like the makeup of the team and I don't think adding a lot is going to be necessary.

As far as Samsonov goes, I think he'll be a special player too and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up backstopping us in a deep playoff run, but it also wouldn't surprise me to see him struggle in the first round and need to take a breather. Holtby is going to be the best security blanket for him in the playoffs, so why not just keep him on a team with Cup aspirations? It shouldn't change our plans long-term if Holtby takes us to another Cup. As much as I'd love to see Samsonov be the guy that takes us deep, I think it's foolish to not have that option behind him. That's just me
