Not even sure I'd make that trade without the first

Not just that...Dubas is on record saying that he wants players under contract/term so Kreider is not of interest to the Leafs.

If you look at the roster with the pending UFAs, Leafs already have plenty, doesn't make sense adding more of those.

This is awful for the Rangers. They give up the 3 best pieces for a middle six F, a decent prospect, next years first (likely lower in the draft order than this years), and 2 cap dumps. Hard no.

Saves NYR money in the long run. Everyone knows that the reason why DeAngelo is moved so often in these AGMs is because NYR has a money trouble with re-signing him after a stellar season... They have pretty low leverage at the moment.

TOR could add a pick if necessary...

Except that's not true. Rangers have 14 mil coming off the cap after this season, and Lemiex & DeAngelo are the only "must signs". Kreider's contract alone coming off the books pays for DeAngelo's raise. Next offseason (not the approaching one, the one after), Lundqvist, Staal, & Smith's expiry adds another 18.5 mil in space

Neither fan base would even consider that trade so you're probably close to correct value on it.

You seem to be forgetting that Shatty's buyout cost is over $6M from the cap the next year and also Strome needs to be re-signed, assuming he's not traded...

Fun fact, I'm forgetting neither. I'm using CapFriendly's numbers for cap space, and the Rangers can afford a 1.5ish million pay raise for Strome if they go that way. Nice try though.

I don't know. I genuinely don't. Perhaps it's because he rubs some people the wrong way, or perhaps they see the Rangers depth on D and think that it makes him expendable (it doesn't)
