The Core Going Into Training Camp

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2020
Published: Feb. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a reasonable start to a good team. Add to this the mid-level draft pick returns for UFA's like Girgensons, Larsson, Sheary, Vesey and even possibly Colin Miller and the draft chart could be full. With $10MM in cap space, I wonder if an Anthony Cirelli offer-sheet is in the cards?

I have Okposo on the IR because he's essentially worthless.

Larsson & Girgs should be back
They’ve been good defensive forwards

We’ve gotta at least get a “Bonino” type player in case Mitts struggles again and Cozens isn’t ready

And there’s just no way Hutton is 1 of our top2 goalies next year
He’s been brutal
I left the game in the 2nd period tonight
I’ve NEVER done that before
He should never play for us again as far as I’m concerned
Nice guy, but he’s just done

I was looking at that top 6 thinking it’s really just 1 player shy of being really good and then I looked at skinners stats and actually laughed... who thought that contract was a good idea?

Johansson isn't a top 6. You can't be thinking Tage Thompson is a top 6. Sabres have a top 3 and a bunch of 7-13 fordwards.

Without a 3rd for compensation, the Sabres can offer Cirelli < 4.3 AAV or > 10.6AAV...

I was think a good 2C and Skinner and a meh guy like johansson or Thompson would be a real solid 2nd and with that first it’d be a real good top 6.... but then I realized skinner is garbage rn lol

I have him up there because right now you're stuck with him. Yes, it would be good to get a real goalie, but teams like Edmonton and Calgary and Minnesota are also in that market, and Chicago will be too if they can't re-up Lehner.

Thanks for the input on Larsson and Girgensons. I'll stop trading them for low-level picks.

I think Pageau is better than Bonino for the #2C you need, but I think he'll re-sign in Ottawa.

This is the starting framework. I can't put Johansson and Thompson on the third line and leave the second line blank.

You can leave him off the list...

How do I "leave off the list" a guy who is contractually required to be on it?

Then your list isn't the "core". It's players under contract...

Only problem with Pageau is that he’s having a career year when he’s about to become UFA
So I’d rather trade a 2nd(?) for someone like Bonino,
than overpay Pageau
Especially bc i still see either Cozens or Mittelstadt as the long term 2C
