Subban

Description
Mirtle in the Athletic says that Subban can be traded and I know the Leafs were interested him in the Summer and were down to the wire with him. If they are still interested should they still pursue this option? With salary retainage and dumping Cody Ceci, of course, its the only way money will work.

And is this enough to take him? I am thinking since hes having a bad season you can buy low right now. Kapanen one-for-one for Subban would probably get it done and adding in a prospect to take back Cody Ceci will do it.

I will officially stop being a Leaf fan if they acquire Subban. I wouldn't forfeit a 7th round pick for that locker room cancer.

Subban probably doesn't help much this year, but if he could rehab his back in the offseason this could be a steal.

Leafs want the cap freedom for the next two years and not have Subban. Don't know why you even suggest the Leafs were interested in the 9m Subban last summer. They didn't have the cap didn't want to to trade other players just to acquire an overpaid Dman

Think they're suggesting NJD retains half his salary. Makes him a $4.5M defenseman.

Still too much. He ain't that good now and certainly don't want him at 4.5m for the following two seasons. Just better ways to spend 4.5m. If Andersen is out for any length of time, it really doesn't matter for the 10th place Leafs .

I agree he's not worth $9 but he is definitely a $4.5M d man. I get you don't like/want him, which is fine, but PK for 2 more at $4.5 is not crazy.

Because they were interested, had a deal in place with Nashville, Polie would not retain 2/3 million so it fell through. Leafs were in on Subban last summer

He's been bad this year, true. Most players in NJD have been. But he was good last year and for a decade before, at $4.5M for the positives he brings, if fully healthy (which he isn't right now), they could do a lot worse. A motivated Subban may still be a scary thing. Pair him with Sandin on the third pair. Not a terrible core. Depending on what it costs the team they should look at it. Cheaper it is, more assets they have to go after a RHD for Rielly.

For what Jersey paid to acquire Subban, they are going to want some picks back. If Subban was slated to be UFA, I would say this would be a trade Toronto should do, but to have Subban and his massive ego for several more years, could cause more harm that good.

There are cheaper alternatives. #1 Hamonic (if the Flames keep free falling), # 2 Martinez, #3 Dumba

The Leafs clearly need to work on their defensive game, shot suppression, penalty kill and overall work ethic, so in those regards, I do not feel PK Subban is the right fit.
