Description
Cozens would start the season with his 9 game tryout - unless he exceeds expectations immediately and shows he's ready for a full NHL season, unfortunately I might choose to send him back to juniors. Really sucks that he can't play AHL next year.

Soderberg signed to do essentially what Berglund was supposed to do, (in Botterill's mind at least) help bridge the gap until Mittelstadt/Cozens are ready for full time 2C NHL work.

If we're gonna pay Skinner 9 mil, he needs to play with Eichel. Olofsson has shown he's a much more effective player with Eichel, leaving Reinhart as the odd man out on the top line.

I think Athanasiou's speed would pair really well with Reinhart's passing and high IQ. Then the Miller for Johnsson trade gives us another good middle of the lineup forward to move up and down as needed.

Had to buy out Hutton, he doesn't belong in the NHL anymore. Signed Dell for only 1 year to bridge with Ullmark until UPL can hopefully be ready for NHL play in 2021-2022. We absolutely should not sign a UFA goaltender long term.

Thoughts?

spending a ton of money on the 4th line and 3rd pair is a huge waste of cap space. okposo is pretty much unmovable unless he goes on ltir and I dont know his contract structure. you could easily replace montour, mccabe and soderberg with guys making under or around 1.5 million. realistically you shouldnt be playing your 4th line more then 6 or 7 minutes and your 3rd pair should be around 15 minutes. just by replacing those 3 guys you free up around 13 million. that gives you more then enough room to sign a guy like kreider

Wings pass, nothing there to really get excited for a rebuilding team.

There is no urgency to trade him as he is a RFA.

If Cozens has to be sent back to juniors, which is unfortunately what I think might happen, Soderberg would have a much more expanded 5v5 role than line 4.

We can get away with overpaying the bottom D pair for one year since Dahlin and Jokiharju will still be on their ELC's. After the 2020-2021 season, I'd get rid of McCabe, Johansson, and Dell which will free up about 10.5 mil for Dahlin and Joki. Borowiecki/Larsson would free up over 3 mil as well.

It can be afforded... that being said, I'm open to trading Montour or Risto for a forward at any time. Just couldn't think of the right trade value and we're not in a position where we need to move either of them asap

I agree no urgency, this trade would likely happen after July 1st when both he and Tage are RFA's

I could up the pick or prospect offered.. I figured 3 futures would be more valuable to DET than AA since they're rebuilding and he's really struggled this year. I'd be willing to change Bryson to Samuelsson or the 4th to a 2nd

I agree and with that return Detroit keeps AA for at least another season. Bryson is 5'9" 179lbs. He is good skater but lacks the high end skill that makes smaller players successful at the NHL level. Plus Yzerman likes big defenseman so I just can't picture Bryson in Detroit. Thompson is in his 3rd season as a pro and he has been unable to make 2 different teams Detroit has no interest in completing his hat trick of futility.

Samuelsson instead of Bryson? Sounds like still probably not enough, but I'd do it
