Ceci really isn't negative value. His prorated cap hit is around 2 million now so he really doesn't carry any value good or bad. Gustafson is a lefty I don't watch him enough to know how well he plays the right side but I still think the leafs say no

Easy pass from the Leafs.

Don't need Strome, he's an RFA this summer and likely to get over $5M AAV.

Gustafsson doesn't fill any needs. He may be able to play both sides but they're specifically looking for a right handed shot d-man. Dermott is already a guy that can play both sides. Plus Gustafsson is a UFA this summer so they'd probably lose him.

DeBrincat would be a nice add but not at the cost of losing Nylander and Kapanen. Nylander is already pretty much a point per game player and signed at a similar cap hit for longer. Kapanen fills the 3rd line spot better.

Not happening from Toronto's side for multiple reasons.

Look at it this way; Strome plus Cat = Nylander plus Kap equal in value and pretty close on cap hits. Strome likely signs a bridge at $4.5M for 3 years. Obviously Strome (local kid) is much better then Kap. Nylander is better then Cat, value is pretty dead on. Both Cat and Strome are younger by a year plus then Nylander or Kap too. Strome is also a much better player then Kerfoot, so before you say you don't need Strome think about that.

Gus is a better player then Ceci to have on the roster and as such as sweetener as I'm sure any team in the league would take Gus over Ceci and both on expiring contracts. Gus played most of his career with the Hawks on the right, like last year when he got 60 points it was all on the right side.

Leafs game is built all around speed. Strome isn't a fast skater and needs a lot of work on his skating abilities. Kapanen is one of the top 5 fastest players in the league. Kapanen's play style fits the Leafs much better and to say Strome is "obviously better" is complete bias. Much smarter for Toronto to pay Kapanen $3.2M to play the third line than overpay Strome to do it. Especially if it means downgrading from Nylander to DeBrincat as you said.

As for Gustafsson, as I said he doesn't fill any needs. Sure he's better than Ceci but there's no fit on Toronto for the loss of value. Much rather call up Liljegren and see what he has on a more consistent basis, or acquire a depth d-man for a cheaper price, or even use Marincin in a defensive role to open up Barrie'a offence more.

There's just too much loss in value for the Leafs in the short term and long term. Easy pass.

I understand why both teams would do this. I also understand why both team won't do this. I personally don't want William Nylander. Give him a tip of the cap. He's playing really well. Period. I still don't want him over Debrincat. Period. Yeah, Debrincat is having a down year. BUT let's make no mistake, Debrincat's "down" year is Nylander's 2nd best year of his career!

Are you seriously not agreeing Strome is a better player then Kap? You've got to be kidding me. Dude you've got to be a serious homer (no offense) if you're suggesting Strome is not better then Kap. They have the exact same points and goals yet Strome has played 10 last game...pretty telling who's the better player not to mention Strome is a center which is more valuable then winger.

Hockey isn't all about points. Look who Strome plays with vs who Kapanen plans with. Not to mention that Kapanen plays more of a defensive role than an offensive one. Plus as I said, Strome needs a lot of work on his skating. It's always been his weakness and it hasn't improved much. Kapanen is one of the best skaters in the league. Strome would be an overpaid 3rd liner in Toronto. Why pay more for Strome to be a 3rd liner when you have Kapanen with the same amount of points (as you said) for less? Strome wouldn't be in a significant offensive role in Toronto and wouldn't produce the same amount.

Seems like you're the one overhyping Strome. But only Toronto fans on here are homers. Not one other fan base is mentioned as one and yet you always seem to overhype you're players.. funny eh?

You're the user that always tells me to look at the other teams needs and how the players fit in on their team instead of "my own". So tell me, how does Strome fit in Toronto? The way I see it is he's no higher than a 3C. A 2nd PP guy, and that's it. He wouldn't sniff the top 6 and with his slow skating he wouldn't be a PK guy either. Leafs have enough offence and don't need just his points. Kapanen provides the defensive edge and speed that Toronto builds around. So why trade for a guy and pay him $1M more (as you've said) when the guy you have already fits better? Makes 0 sense from Toronto's side. They can find a 3C cheaper. Engvall has filled the role nicely and is a better defensive option than Strome. Plus Engvall has some offence to his game to. So it seems pretty obvious that there is no fit for this trade in Toronto. But I guess that's a homer opinion since I can't agree with you.

Strome doesn't need a lot of work on his skating. He's not a fast skater per se but that doesn't mean he needs "work" his footwork is solid.

Kap has the same amount of point player 20% more games this season...think about that.

Look at how many people here are saying this is an overpay by Chicago...non leaf fans also. Pretty telling...

As much as TML is getting better part of this trade it bothers me the needs where TML has issues arent adressed. You are pumping Offence where TML is already Top 3 in the League but :

1) Strome will comand 5 x 5M at least, 1,3M deficit comparing to Kapanen in already tightened Cap if we focus on money only....

2) Gustafsson as much as i should be biased cause hes Swede isnt Defensive D that TML lacks and which puts them to the bottom of SA and SCA where even good Goalies look bad.....

I think the only player TML are interested in from CHI is Murphy, which you guys proly want to hang onto, so......we should just quit trying those blank shots of a trades......

I choose not to engage with them. Well at 90% of them anyway, there's a few on this site that are quite sharp and reasonable. They just get buried amongst the noise.

??‍♂️ Funny how you still think hockey is all about points to tell how good someone is and you totally ignored the rest of my points as to why Kapanen excels better. If you actually read what I said, you'd know why Toronto doesn't even consider this idea because it DOESN'T FIT THEIR TEAM. But again, that must be a homer opinion solely because I don't agree with you and once that happens, someone is definitely a homer. Guess you can't be wrong at all ??‍♂️

I don't think hockey is all about points and that is especially rich coming from Toronto. Strome adds physicality and plays the front of the net plus he's a center. There is nobody outside of Toronto fans that wouldn't think Strome is worth more then Kap. I get that it may not address needs necessarily and to a degree same with Hawks but the value on paper is more then there and favors toronto actually.

Which is why it's unnecessary for us we don't have the money that Strome will want. I think what he means is that kap is more valuable on his contract than what we would be able to sign Strome for.

Strome is a $4.5M bridge deal; Cat is $500K less then Nylander; money difference in this trade is $500K
