For a team that seemed to absolutely decimate themselves last year at the trade deadline, I'm actually super surprised that they've got all of their 1st rounders for the next 3 years, and a still not-horrible stable of young players.

People were overly critical. The Jackets have draft well in the late rounds and players drafted 3-5 years ago are pushing for spots now. Almost too many. We've seen Sherwood, Stenlund, Macinnis, Lilja, Bemstrom, Robinson, Peeke, Carlsson all play games this year and none have played a full NHL season. All credit to Torts and Jarmo.

Pageau would fit in nicely with teams like CBJ and NYI as they preach a defensive game. I have no idea who these players are so I can safely say nothing positive or negative about them. Good trade?

Ottawa will want more and I’m not sure Columbus looks too hard into buying rentals again. Kinda got burned last season.

Kukan slotted in with Jones on the top line early last year for about 8/10 games when Werenski was struggling and he (Kukan) did not look out of place. He also ate up some big minutes in playoffs too, he is ready for big top four minutes.
Stenlund is big and skilled, and looked good for stretches when in the lineup. He had most of his goals on the power play. Jackets would still need to upgrade the pick or add a bit more to get Pageau (with extension).

Ah yes, sweeping an overpowered Tampa Bay Lightning team is a considered being burned.

Losing all of them for nothing is getting burned... we had 3 picks in last years draft, ie getting burned.

I think Jarmo knew what he was getting into when he made those trades. Sure you lost all 4 guys in the end, but I give him credit to making an effort to push. Bob and Panarin were never going to stay. Were Davidsson, Abramov and Thompson really the prospects you'd like to keep in the Duchene trade? Are the two 2nd rounders you gave up for Dzingel going to be NHL players? Was getting rid of Duclair a bad thing?

Duclair is such an anomaly...does really well for a year in Arizona, sh1ts the bed for the next few years for the Yotes, Blackhawks and Jackets, then tears it up for the Sens...will be interesting to see what kind of contract he gets this summer. I wonder what the issue is? Luck? Attitude? Effort? I can see guys like Torts and Quennville being tough guys to play for, so maybe that was it?

Tocchet in Arizona which is strange... seeing as how he (Tocchet) likes Kessel (albeit Kessel is a lot better than Duclair). Maybe Duclair wasn't given much leeway for those teams or maybe those teams had an actual structure. He is playing a more defensive role in Ottawa on the PK and when they are trying to keep the lead late in the period (when it does happen). He is a polarizing player though. He's going through a 13 game goalless drought but its not like he's not creating chances.
