I posted earlier this morning that if MTL really wanted Gaudreau it would likely cost Domi, Tatar and a pick, likely a 1st.

Poehling could also be involved if Calgary wanted a prospect instead of a pick, but the price would be significant.

Tatar+Poehling+Montreals 2020 2nd round pick is nowhere near enough for Johnny Gaudreau, Montreal would need to at least add their 2020/2021 1st round pick to the deal at the very least. The Monahan deal is probably a little more closer to the actual cost.

Tatar is a downgrade but still offers great quality for one more full year when Gaudreau as one more year before going UFA.
So for one more year of Johnny Hockey you need to add Domi + 1st... come on...
Domi +2nd is fair or Tatar, Peohling +2nd is GREAT!

Might be a tad closer then i would think. Can't see Treliving dealing Gaudreau without a 1st coming back at the very least.

I think so ya, Domi is going to want 7+ on his next contract and he is really only a 55-60 point guy, Tatar only has 1 year left and then will want a pay raise and is only a 60 point winger traditionally, so you're getting the best and cheapest player in the deal which would likely cost another pick on top of it.

I dont think it's the best price to pay but if you're Calgary and selling off a ppg player, that's what you ask for because there is likely a team that's willing to pay it.

Don't forget Peohling value... A+ Prospect who would and playing in the NHL aleady as a Top3C

Any prospect with 1 point in 26 NHL games this season is not an A+ prospect. He is a good potential bottom 6 C but quite frankly those are a dime a dozen and you don't trade JG for that package!
