Because MON desperately needed centers but was still a terrible call. I can understand maybe taking a center a little early, but Kot went like 10 picks too early.

Big buzz was that they hadn't had a franchise center since Koivu... so they drafted for a need they felt for a position rather than the best available player... which many didn't even think was Hughes. Zadina had a ton of hype heading into the draft that year.

Here we go again. Wayyyyy too early to judge. Kotkaniemi is the seventh youngest player in the league right now. Let's wait three or four years and see what he can be. Not saying he is better than Hugues right now, but he is far from a bust so far.

Don't think so. We had needs at every position except G. Best players at each positions were Tkachuk, Zadina, KK and Hughes. I still think we should have gone for Hughes.

You are right. Habs were short on C, reason why he was rushed into the NHL. On an average NHL team with decent C depth, he would be in Liiga or AHL. But he do is in the AHL right now and he is having fun, so I'm actually really optimistic for him in the future.
