Ouch, not sure you guys should want to give up a first next year considering your cap issues. As SJS learned, it can be a quick fall.

Leafs have roughly $12 million coming off the books next year, plus the cap is going to rise.

The value in this trade seems to be there. I like the idea of not giving up Liljegren, but I don't think the Leafs will trade their first round pick for 2021 at this point because of the condition on the Marleau trade. Not sure if Minny takes this deal as well.

That is a rather misguided statement. San Jose was a really old team, and now their old players can't carry a team that has no depth. TO's average age is several years younger than San Jose and apart from Tavares, their core is all under 26.

Matt Dumba is also... not a very good hockey player? If you look at his isolated impact on shot metrics, he makes the wild worse on both offense and defense.

Kasperi Kapanen for Dumba 141 is probably not something the leafs should consider, let alone the package you've proposed.

The man's got 129 shots, 75 hits and 71 blocked shots in 52 outings.

If the Leafs were to nab him, he would literally be in the top 5 on the Leafs for each of those stats.

Dumba in 2019-2020: https://hockeyviz.com/player/dumbama94/MIN/1920

He makes the Wild less effective on offense, and on defence. This trend is prevalent across his entire career.

Hitting a lot and blocking a lot of shots means you don't have the puck, which means you cannot score goals. A lot of shots from your defencemen is typically not a good thing. Blasting a point shot, which he does, often, is very often just a turn over with extra steps. It's a low percentage shot (he's scored on 3% of his 129 shots this year).
