Nurse to CHI Summer Trade

Created by: DrumMan44
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 5, 2020
Published: Feb. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
(This whole thing assumes Seabrook plays next year, and is not LTI-Retired). He just had a second surgery and should be ready for training camp, supposedly.

The Blackhawks are heavy on the right side with Seabrook, Murphy, Boqvist, and Mitchell hopefully joining soon. The left side is a bit lighter. This swaps Murphy for Nurse. I know Nurse is worth more in a vacuum, so taking Russel off of Edmonton's hands at full freight. If that's not enough, I would consider sending Caggiula back

As a result of the cap squeeze, I had to send out Saad, Shaw, and de Haan

Teams will not package players with perceived high value with players with perceived low value -- why would they diminish their possible return?

Yeah, that's not half enough for Nurse.

I haven’t seen enough of Nurse, but giving up Murphy does not make the deal advantageous. Nurse is a RFA, so the Oilers will offer him another contract before he can be a free agent. I have read here there is talk Nurse will sign a bridge, and once that expires he can get paid the $8 M he wants.
If this trade were to happen, it would spell more cap hell for the Hawks. With the players lost to bring in Nurse, I see no advantage.

From the Oilers prospective, the Oilers would expect more the Murphy. Caggiula & Russell are not necessary.

OK, noted. Maybe there is not the fit that I was thinking for this trade.

I don't think this deal makes much sense for the Hawks. Murphy can also play both sides and is extremely affordable. While Nurse would be an upgrade on the 2nd line, his cap hit he will require is more then the hawks should consider IMO.

De Haan is going to be really hard to move with 4 shoulder surgeries. In fact, I think there is much more risk his career is over versus Seabs.

Saad is definitely worth more then a late 1st. We should not trade him if we don't get a 1st and a A- prospect or 3rd round pick with it back.

Strome is a horrible option at the wing as he is not fast and plays a net front game. If we are looking to move someone upfront, IMO Strome is the player to move. He would get back a 1st and good prospect all day long but more importantly, could get a very solid winger back. With the emergence of Dach as the 2C, it makes Strome more expendable IMO then Saad. What the Hawks need is two way wingers with speed up front. Relying on Kane every game doesn't work.

For defense we should have

Keith - Boqvist
Murphy - Mitchell
Maatta (DeHaan) - Seabs
- Gilbert, Koekko (re-sign him)

On a smaller note, the cap will likely be $83M at a minimum and as high as $83.5M IMO.
