Montreal gets a fast, skilled cost controlled player in Kappy.
Lily is a top prospect RHD that is much younger than Petry.
They also get a solid 4th line in Timashov who has offensive ski but also loves to hit everything in sight.

All players making Montreal better for the future.
Toronto is in a win now mind set so this trade makes sense.

Perhaps removing Romanov and Kokkonen would make more sense?

This has to be the worst trade on here I’ve seen in a while...

Edit: apologies, I’ll try and add something constructive.

Petry imo is worth a young roster player and top prospect or pick. So in this instance Kapanen + Liljegren, or Kapanen + 1st. Petry is a top pairing RD, and isn’t a rental, he’ll cost a premium. Not saying Leafs will pay that price, but MTL wouldn’t move him otherwise.

The other assets you added (Timashov, Kokkonen, and the 2nd) don’t even come close to getting you Domi alone.

Romanov isn’t for sale, period.

romanov is like the habs equivalent of sandin. maybe not quite as good as sandin but he's not far off (and before people say that me saying sandin is better is leafs bias, the world juniors awards/stats speak for themselves). this doesn't even come close. also domi is no small upgrade over kapanen, he scored 72 points last year

Kappy isnt the type of player MTL is looking for because we have a couple versions of him already. Petry would cost Liligren plus a pick if traded, Domi would cost Toronto another 1st and high end prospect and Romanov is close to Sandin in value, so for the math.

All in all you're not giving anything g to MTL of actual value while taking away key pieces of now and future.

I think you’re assessment of Romanov and Sandin is fair. They were only picked like 9spots from each other at the draft. Both are incredibly close, but Sandin has the edge in offensive ability, or at least has proven more so far. Romanov probably more well rounded and more physical, but a tad less offensive. He’s purely used in a defensive role on the KHL’s best team. Only chance we’ve been able to see his offensive game has been at the WJ’s
leafs101 and MountRoyal514 liked this.

yeah I think he might have been equating his value to more of a liligren which is just not accurate. leafs fans wouldn't trade sandin for something not mind blowing, and the rest of the trade aside, I'm sure MTL wouldn't either

Bergevin immediately hits the hang up button and blocks Dubas’s number.

Keep in mind that Dubas was able to trade practically nothing for an elite goalie and Kyle Clifford at 50% salary!!!!

He could get this done. Fair value trade, perhaps more in MTL favor due to quantity and a high pick.

Wait what? Jack Campbell is a good backup goalie and Clifford is a 4th liner

He was also able to get this eras Bobby Orr in Barrie at half price!!
And we gave up a 3rd line C with poor discipline and attitude, and AHL D man and got a 2nd line winger who's younger and better to boot!!

He could pull this trade off make Bergevin think he won it!
