LOL! DeAngelo and Lemieux take less money and less years NYR will offer for the opportunity to play in Ottawa. Georgiev as well wouldn't sign a 1 year offer sheet, especially with Ottawa. What do you think Ottawa would trade for Matthews?

The point is to increase the price of these players for New York so that they get cap squeezed and have to let a player go. I think the most likely is Georgiev. He would want to sign in Ottawa so he could be a starter and then get a much bigger contract than if he is playing as a 3rd goalie in New York; thus the short term.

I dont think the Sens would trade for Matthews they want high draft picks and prospects right now and dont have enough talent to win a cup in the 4 years left on Matthews contract after this year. That said I think a fair deal for Matthews would be the 2 1sts from this year, three 2nds from this year and Colin White and Drake Batherson.

You're missing "the point" no one is signing an offer sheet to play for Ottawa, especially for less $$$ and less term. No to mention the Shattenkirk buyout, Lundqvist, Staal, Smith, and Beleskey's contracts come off the books the following season and NYR could do a quid pro quo of their own. Don't mess with the bull young man, you'll get the horns.

Actually young players prefer less term because that way they can make more in the long run. The real target here is to try to snag Georgiev for a 3rd and push NYR close to the cap so they have to think hard about matching for a 3rd goalie.

Good luck with that! Though after the trade deadline your highly unlikely to happen suggested "point" will most likely be moot.
