AA is Detroit's only decent trade piece and Yzerman in his last public interview he said:

Quoting: Steve Yzerman
"It just doesn't make sense to trade away players at this point but we will continue to build through the draft and free agency."

There are 2 ways to interpret that: First he really isn't going too make any trades and second the offers he has been receiving for AA just aren't enough to move him. If the second interpretation is correct he has to be talking about AA. The 5 players Detroit has becoming UFAs at the end of the season individually a couple of them might bring in a 3rd if they are lucky more but more likely a 4th or a 5th.

I don't think JP is a NHL player but it really doesn't matter here because he hasn't proved him self at the NHL level and that's a fact. If he had proven himself he wouldn't be in Finland right now. Since AA is Detroit's only decent trade piece and he has 2 more seasons before he can become a UFA I don't see Yzerman trading him for a 2nd round pick that will be in the latter half of the round and a player that hasn't been able to prove him self at The NHL level. So Detroit hold on to him for another season because they don't have to trade him.

MTL is NOT taking a cap dump and a fringe nhl player for Kovalchuk and a 4th!
