Keep Saad, Caggiula, Kampf and one goalie. Cannot completely destroy the team because they are a few pieces away from contending

Lehner would be a short-term gamble for Edmonton, at best. Unless Holland can shed a few over-priced contracts that extend into next season (Kris Russell, Alex Chiasson, James Neal) there is no way Lehner stays.

I doubt Edmonton has any interest in re-visiting Caggiula. I think they will accept that trading him away for Manning was a bone-head move, and will leave it at that.

Holland will not make this trade.

These are some interesting deals. From a Hawks perspective these arn't bad and the other teams get good value too imo. Only gripe I have is dealing Kampy away with Gus for a mere 1st. Maybe a 1st and a 5th and you have good value for the Hawks side.

I think it might be a little heavy handed to insist that we are only a few pieces away from competing. This team is much more of a mess then hawks fans care to admit.

Realistically, I think we are one good top 4 defenseman and two decent forwards from competing. The issue is cap space.

Seabrook's contract is an albatross and Toews is at least 3M overpaid. That's about 10M in "dead" cap space. Which is about 2-4 quality players right there sucked up in "dollars that shouldn't have been given".

Toews should make 8-9 million. Last season and this season have proved that. Seabrook should be making no more than 3 million AAV

Okay, with that logic, how do solve the issue? Odds are, you need to get rid a player or two to solve the cap issue. That means you need three forwards and two dmen potentially.

What I’m saying specifically is that the team hasn’t focused on its long term outlook to solving problems. Cap issues are the problem? Agreed, but to solve it, you need to suffer for some time. Seabrook makes contract will cost at least an unprotected 1st to get rid of. Or you keep him, then how do you the problem? Trade toews or Kane and 10.5 mil? Nope, that’s going way backwards.

So I’ll ask this, is it really that bad to have a rebuild? With due respect, bowman already ****ed this team. We had our dynasty and we even had a chance to continue it without going into a down period. Unfortunately, bowman messed it up with bad contracts and even worse trades.

I do agree last offseason Bowman put this team in the wrong direction. The Shaw trade was brutal by giving up a 2nd and 3rd rounder when we could have signed someone like Donskoi or Dzingel for free. Nylander has not worked out like everyone hoped but he is still young. I do not know why we traded for Maatta if we were going to get de Haan too. If the cap doesn't rise a lot and not much is moved this team will be stuck being mediocre. If say, Maatta and Smith are moved maybe they'll be able to bring in a player or two who knows. I take back my comment because it is not that realistic. If they had cap space, that would be a different story.

Right now Vegas projects to have the 16th pick over all. Given the purported depth of talent in the 2020 draft, I think that pick may not be traded. Bear in mind that Matthew Barzal and Jacob Chychrun were 16th overall picks in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Vegas has two second round and two third round picks, perhaps some combination of those might be a suitable return for Gustafsson and Kampf.

Just because those teams drafted well at that position doesn't mean Hawks will get something but it's good to know that the draft is supposed to be deep this year and not just average.
