So then it’s just Heinen for Rakell?

Boston needs to give up more. Rakell is a great player with a great contract and especially with Backes going the other way

It would cost 1st/Heinen/prospect just for Rakell, if they are taking Backes the price goes up even more.

I disagree that anyone taking backes gets a 1st +. I think that’s just incorrect. However I think the bruins need to give much more in this deal.

Yup because the 1st would be to take on Backe's contract for one season. So yup pretty much Heinen for Rakell.

Nope.

Why didn’t the Leafs get a 1st when they took Clarkson then? Different circumstances. Backes and Marleau are not the same circumstances. Apples and oranges, both fruits but completely different.

This ^, Bruins only need to give a first if they get pushed against the cap like TOR was, which atm is not the case

I would say a second or a B prospect is probably enough to move Backes

the leafs did it for cap purposes and LTIR purposes. Marleau actually played, backes is getting paid rn to sit on a beach, this isnt the backes from st louis you guys know that right?

It won’t, because the two situations are drastically different.
Marleau situation:
Had a NMC
Had a 35+ contract
His team HAD to move him.
Couldn’t be put in the minors.
3.83 million buyout cost.
Full, 6.25 million buyout cap hit.

Backes:
None of those things.

You understand it’s completely about $ and cap space right?

Marleau was a 35+ contract. Backes is not. Team taking Backes had to assume his full cap hit. Backes has cap relief upon buyout.

Actual buyout cost for Marleau was bigger.

Leafs had to move him. B’s do not.

B’s can retain and cut cost of moving him down, Leafs could not.

Marleau could not be buried. Backes can.

Jets moved a 4.1m cap dump in Steve Mason with a 25 pt FW a 4th and a 7th for a fringe player. Somewhere between the two is the likely cost.

Wow were still having to explain why Marleau and Backes deals are not the same? Amazing that people still catch grasp that they are not.

I'd love to see rakell but that's not a deal that's gonna happen. I don't think you need to get a guy who will cost as much as him or kreider.
