Sure first off Petry is nowhere near that value, And secondly it doesn't address Minnesota's need which is a future top 6 Cman coming back for Matt Dumba. So Minnesota easily declines.

MIN needing a Cman is a fair point. I think Petry's value is closer than you think. Similar to the Muzzin trade. GMMB won't trade unless it's a must-take offer and WPG desperately needs a TOP 4 defencemen for the next two playoff pushes. I think he fits right in.

To be fair those, Vesalainen and Niku are further along in their development that Grundstrom and Durzi were, and I'm of the belief that Muzzin is a slightly better DMan than Petry.

If the prospects were different than Niku (Stanley?) and Vesalainen (insert low end forward prospect from Winnipeg) and I'm pretty sure this would be a good deal.

The real winners would be Minnesota though if this was the 3 way trade.

Petry's underlining stats and points are off the chart. Better than Muzzin. Sami Niku has much less upside than Sean Durzi and Vesalainen is actually younger than Grundstrom.

Montreal essentially trading Petry for Dumba is a homerun for Bergevin considering the age difference and contract length. You can argue that all teams win despite WPG slightly over-paying.
