Value is relative. Other teams have leverage on Toronto in any deal involving Johnsson or Kapanen because they play 3rd line minutes and likely wont get much more than that before their current contracts expire, in which both of them would probably require a raise. Their value is greater as a trade asset for acquiring a top 4 defensemen than as a player, which is likely the dilemma and why a deal around them would be so complicated. So what Im saying is while their value is not that of a 3rd liner, it isnt that of a top line forward either, even if theyd be doing better than most other forwards on the team because thats not how he is playing in toronto, because he is (probably) getting sheltered minutes while the Matthews and Tavares lines get the tough match ups

Kapanen is 27th in points by a RW this season (http://hkref.com/tiny/QvOGv)
He is tied for 30th the last two seasons (http://hkref.com/tiny/2xD5s)

He's produced like a low end first line RW or a high end second line RW.

People think a first line RW is Kucherov or Kane. They're the elite.

There is a huge drop off after the first 20 or so. After that first and second line wingers are guys like Kapanen

Yes thats why I said he isnt a 3rd liner. I do not think that Kapanen would succeed in a 1st line role playing the top matchups every night. That is why he is not a 1st liner either. He is in the upper top 6 range for sure, but like I said, when dealing for a top 4 defenseman, a position of need for TOR especially with Rielly out long term, the top 4 dman would hold a lot more value to TOR than Kapanen would, especially since he is going to get a raise in both AAV and term when his current contract expires, something TOR doesnt figure to have available on a guy they can only put on the 3rd line because he isnt better than their other wingers

I wish but there's no way Columbus accepts this trade. If they would I will drive them to Columbus myself.

That’s an easy no from Columbus. We have no use for more wings... we need a center. Kerfoot would have had to be part of the trade for Columbus to consider it.
