My guess is they’d want a prospect or a younger player instead of Eddy

It'll be more like a pick and a prospect. Not a roster player. If anyone off the roster is involved it'll be as a cap equalizer. The Jake Muzzin trade is a good comparable. I'd narrow it down to 2 options here:

Either LA sends Alec Martinez to Carolina for Brock McGinn, Morgan Geekie, 2020 1st round pick (the later of the 2 they have)

OR

LA sends Alec Martinez to Carolina for Haydn Fleury, Julien Gauthier, and a 2020 1st round pick (the later of the 2 they have)

Edmundson would need to go for the cap, Martinez isn't worth a 1st, the asking price for Dillon is a 2nd and a prospect and Dillon is a better player

True, would the extra year for $4M raise the value though?...or at least raise the asking price

Edmundson doesn't need to go for cap, they have LTIR space so they'd be fine picking up Martinez. And Martinez will get more than Dillion (likely a 1st and a prospect) because Martinez has more term left on his contract

THAT much? No. Maybe ask for a prospect, but Dillon is more than twice the player of Martinez imo

BTW - Eddy doesn’t have to go. Canes have $4.1M cap space today, and will have closer to $5.5M at the deadline. They also have $6M dead cap + a lot more coming off next year.

Eddy would need to go to fit under this year, if we hit the playoffs, Justin Williams contract bonuses put us over. Edmundson would need to go

If you’re worried about bonuses, then you should be shedding cap space now. $4.5M potential bonuses between Svech, Necas, Williams, and Foegele.

I'm trying to, that's why Eddy is in the deal, McGinn would also need to go

IR and LTIR are the same thing. LTIR just kicks in when a team reaches the upper limit of the salary cap, and allows the team to go over by that much as long as the player misses a certain amount of time.

Edmundson doesn't have to go for cap reasons.

LTIR and IR are not the same thing, a player on IR still counts towards the cap, LTIR allows you to go over to compensate for the injured player, IR doesn't.

LTIR and IR are the same thing. As I said, if a team is under the upper salary cap limit, it is considered IR. But once they reach the upper salary cap limit because of the injured players contract, and once that player has missed a certain amount of time (I believe it's either 10 games or 2 weeks) it is considered LTIR and the team is allowed to exceed the upper salary cap limit by the amount of the players contract. But it is the same reserve list until the upper limit is reached.

Please read the NHL CBA.

Not really, Martinez is a different player than Muzzin, you can sort of compare the return but Martinez will be a lesser package as he is older, it's more like a B prospect a 2nd and a 3rd

Y’all are funny - this LTIR vs IR discussion doesn’t matter unless the Canes exceed the threshold of the upper limits of the prorated salary cap - which they are currently $4.1M away from doing. They could add a 1 year $9.875M AAV contract and Dougie would go on LTIR, for they could add a 1 year $4.1M contract today without Dougie going on LTIR..

You know they can exceed the Salary Cap by 7.5% if the bonuses kick them over - which is $6M+ and they only have $4.5M. They were smart with the Williams performance bonuses. They’d only have to worry if they added another player with bonuses - which is unlikely.

It's literally exactly what I said. That LTIR and IR are the SAME THING. But LTIR only gives you salary relief when you reach the upper limit. A guy could be on LTIR with his team at $70M, but his cap hit still counts until they reach $81.5M.

Learn something kid.
