Imagining a Rakell trade from Zucker

Created by: Salzy
Team: 2019-20 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2020
Published: Feb. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lets compare Zucker vs Rakell first
Zucker-Rakell
28YO-26YO
3 Years left - 2 Years Left
5.5AAV - 3.8AAV
This season 29P 45GP - 31P 46GP
Career 243P 456G - 272P 428GP

I would say Rakell has higher value than Zucker

I could obviously go much more in depth but for the sake of this I'll stop there

Looking at the rest of the trade
Late 1st, Top Prospect (Addison) and Galchenyuk (Not a true cap dump, good bounce-back candidate could do well in MIN)

So for Rakell Lets say he's worth a Top Prospect, a First and a B prospect

The Isles trade is something they would definitely do. Rakell would be an incredible fit with NYI. But, if you want to emulate the Zucker trade a bit more, you'll have to take a little salary also (similar to Galchenyuk).

Would the Ducks do Wilde, Hickey, 1st, 3rd for Rakell and Del Zotto?

I was more or less trying to gauge Rakells Value, if a cap dump is needed I'd just add Hickey and a pick to the deal above and not take less, especially adding DZ (little value I know but still has some)

The big issue with the Boston idea is the Backes part. Galchenyuk is a young, pending UFA where Backes is a old, slow, guy with this year and next left on his deal. Backes can easily be bought out this summer at a cheaper cap hit. I doubt they overlay this much to move him

Re: Avalanche - I think they would LOVE Rackell. Perfect fit / has term.

I don't see them moving either of the prospects mentioned, much less both. While Addison might have been PIT's #1 prospect, he was barely a top 100 overall prospect ( https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-top-100-prospects-ranking/ is a good starting point). Addison was ranked basically the same as either Kaut or Timmons, while Newhook was top-25.

Additionally, I think that PIT had to overpay a little because MIN had to take back Galchenyuk's salary.

I think that a realistic COL trade would be:
    2020 First
    Tyson Jost
    Drew Hellison

Perhaps a little more if ANA took the 2021 1st instead as the Avs don't have a 2020 2nd.

I had put Newhook cause I wasn't sure of Timmins outlook with his concussions problems, has he put those past him? if so Him and Newhook is for sure too much for COL to give

I would think ANA would want Timmins for sure seeing our RD depth.

In my comparison I was valuing Galchenyuk around a 5th, cause even though he is a "cap move" I believe he has some upside still and assuming he stays in MIN

I think it would take an overpay for us to Move Rakell though, I feel like Timmins, 2020 1st and Kaut/Jost would be the starting point in a discussion

I figured BOS picks would be 28-31 in each round so I thought that second would be fair for next seasons 4M cap hit

Timmins is turning into a stud and will likely be with the team next year, if not this year for the playoffs. He's also more than likely going to take over for big Z when he's selected by Seattle in the expansion draft.
Newhook is also probably off the table. Kid's lighting it up right now.

Addison is nowhere near either of them, so the comparison is off. @macca2119 's proposal of 2020 1st + Jost + Hellison is more in line with the Zucker trade

Rakell > Zucker and Addison is close to Timmins saying he isnt is an overvaluation of Timmins or an undervaluation of Addison

Newhook is an over add just wasnt sure how the injuries have affected Timmins, if it seems like no affect take Newhook out 100%

And the Ducks can keep Rakell so that on top of him being a better and young player on a better deal than Zucker means the cost would be higher

That'd be the cost of Rakell not at all about taking Backes

The only deal that interests me would be the COL deal with Timmins + Newhook + 1st. The rest all just seem "meh" to me, especially that BOS deal.

No they wouldn't. Zucker just got picked up for more than that and Rakell is better, younger and on a cheaper contract. IMO, any deal for Rakell with NYI would need to contain Dobson. We need a RHD prospect and a good one. Wilde just seems so "meh".

That's awful for ANA. I don't mind swapping Timmins for Helleson, but Jost doesn't do it for me. The kid hasn't improved at all over the past 3 seasons and looks set to be a bottom 6er. Newhook would have to be included for me otherwise we might as well just keep Rakell. You can't expect to add a 30 goal scorer in his prime years and on a sweetheart deal and keep all your juicy prospects. You have to sacrifice the future for the now. If you're not willing to do that than fine that's your decision.

Everyone thinks their prospects are the best. Addison is absolutely in the same league as Timmins, but without all the injury concerns. Like I said above, I think swapping Timmins for Helleson is fine, but Jost is a bottom 6er and does nothing for us. The deal would have to include Newhook for me.

    Helleson + Newhook + 1st <----> Rakell

You're getting a 30 goal scorer in his prime years and on a sweetheart contract. That's going to cost you a bunch of futures. Even so, you're still sitting pretty with Byram, Timmins, Kaut... still a tonne of good youth players coming through in COL and Rakell will be with you for a long time and fits in the right age as your core.

I'd pass. Would need a better RHD prospect for me. We don't need Ho-Sang either.

I like these overall as far as value goes. But my scouting is pretty limited on most of these clubs except maybe NYI.
I have a constant debate in my head of if I rather lose Rakell or Silfverberg, before it was always Silf. But hearing him talk the other night made me realize what a solid leader he's become. Rakell I think is still the best offensive player we have. And I would love to seem him play with Zegras. So I think between Silf and Rakell, it has to be Henrique... Love him but Silf and Rakell are too valuable to the future.
