Cannot Fix the Awful Coaching Right Now - So Fix the Players

Created by: netminder71
Team: 2019-20 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 11, 2020
Published: Feb. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reirden is awful and could not coach a cat out of a cardboard box...so shake up the personnel. Assumes Kuzy is out for 2 weeks (maybe more).

Labanc > Panik
Jensen is -30 pretty much, he's gotta go.
Gersich, LucasJo, Djoos aren't going to get NHL ice time in the Caps org and all have good potential
Panik may be playing "better" lately but he's not made enough of an impact on a team that needs the Top 9 to score and forecheck.

Yeah hes having a down year but so is the entire sharks team. But he is still an RFA who can be cost controlled so minimum i think it would take a first round or a 2nd round, Copley, and a B+ prospect? Thats my guess at least

LucasJo is a B+ prospect. But let me change the picks...see if that sweetens the pot.

Give up like 22 goals in last 4 games...defensive corps is a -30 since New Years. Holtby struggling, secondary scoring struggling...they won't be 3rd overall for long at this pace, nor a Cup contender. Need to fix this streak of putting up turds every night.

As much as I want to win right now and upgrade the defense, I don't want to part with a first round pick. If it means targeting someone with less term or something then I'd rather do that. I get why we want to go all-in right now, but I still think we should be keeping our first round picks to try and draft well enough that we don't need a full rebuild. That's just my take on it, and if it trading the first brings us another Cup, I ultimately don't care. I'll go back to my favorite suggestion of trading for Vatanen. As a rental, he should cost a good chunk less than Manson and the two are very similar players. If that type of player proves to be a good fit in our top four, then we can (hopefully) resign him.

I'm not completely opposed to adding Manson at the cost of a first round pick, and if something like this happened, I wouldn't be up in arms. But I personally would just prefer finding a cheaper potential solution.
