Massive underpayment for Mikheyev (over a million off). Otherwise seems pretty good.

He's played 39 games in the league and battled inconsistency and injury. He won't get a big raise. Probably another low cost deal for 1 year. $1.25M for 1 year makes sense so it's still easily bury-able in the minors if needed

1.5M x 1 is fair or 2.25M x2 but not 1.25M x 2. He was producing at a higher rate than Kap Johnsson and Kerfoot when he got injured. Plus I see him playing in the top 6.

& if he asks for that much you tell him to sit and wait till he gets that's offer from someone else. Leafs have depth on the wing to fill that spot for cheaper. $1.25M for 1 year allows them to bury him if needed. He's also highly unlikely to be a top 6 guy. Hyman, Marner, Kerfoot, Nylander, Johnsson, Kapanen, and evening at times Engvall on the wing are higher than him on the depth chart. Mikheyev has no leverage as a RFA for any high demands

He can go to the KHL and make a lot more... also how did that work out with Marner?

Then he can go to the KHL lol. Leafs won't miss him that much. They have tons of depth on the wings.

& idk. You tell me about Marner. He seems to have 11 million reasons to say it worked out pretty good.

Rantanen at 9.25 and Kucherov at 9... He took 0 discount for being an RFA. I think you greatly undervalue Mikheyev. Remember we had that big winning streak and then Mikheyev got injured and we lost 3 in a row... He will slot with Tavares and Nylander why would he get close to league minimum.

I think you greatly undervalue the spot Marner was in compared to Mikheyev. Mikheyev is a depth player. Marner is a star.

Let's put it this way. I'd rather Mikheyev than Kerfoot so why would he get 1/3 the money?

That's just you personally. Kerfoot has done a great job on a line with Tavares and Nylander. They already have him there and can use that as leverage to lower Mikheyev's deal. Mikheyev has no leverage at all.

He would get 1/3 because he has 1/3 of the resume. I love the passion in your debate for him being a great player, but its unproven still because of the injury. Mikheyev could wait until the playoffs are done and hope he improves his value, but it could also go the other way. Plus i think we will begin to see the Leafs RFAs start to jump at the cap space that is free, knowing there is only so much the leafs can spend. sure the KHL is an option, but he has been quoted of seeing the NHL as the ultimate goal.

This idea that we always have to pay people at the highest point of their value, should be reserved for those with a resume. Unfortunately, thanks to the injury, his resume at this point is closer to that of a Co-op Term

You must say though 1.25M x 2 is a severe underpayment.

We are talking about signing a currently injured player, to a guaranteed 1 way deal, where the injury he is recovering from has the potential to impact him long term with loss of feeling in his hand. There is risk to that for Ilya which is why i gave the extra year.

But sure make it a one year deal. the cap next year is my only concern on making this.
